Position Summary

Odyssey Community School (OCS) is seeking a dynamic Executive Director to lead this outstanding school with 418 pre-k-grade 8 students in advancing its mission, vision, and strategic objectives while overseeing all programs, people, and administrative operations. As the school leader, the Executive Director will build meaningful relationships with its diverse stakeholders, including administrators, teachers and staff, students, parents, and families, alumni, community members, business leaders, state and federal governmental bodies, philanthropic supporters, and other educational organizations. Future priorities for this role include developing a long-term strategic plan to ensure sustainability, further enhancing Odyssey's reputation as a leader in student learning, nurturing the organization's existing culture and Odyssey's CIRCLE Values and overseeing an expansion project that will provide enhanced programming opportunities for our middle school students.

OCS was founded in 1997 under the very first charter granted by the CSDE to begin a public charter school. We have grown steadily since our inception, and have garnered a reputation for successful student achievement, project-based technology integration, and our guiding focus on our students' social and emotional growth.

Key responsibilities:

* Strategic Planning: Develop and execute long-term strategic plans to achieve school-wide educational goals, aligning with state and federal standards.

* Budget Management: Create and oversee the school budget, allocating funds effectively across grades and programs to maximize 21st century teaching pedagogy and student learning including identifying and seeking grant opportunities that align with our organizational mission.

* Leadership and Staff Development: Hire, evaluate, and support school principals, teachers, and staff, while providing site-based professional learning opportunities for all.

* Curriculum Oversight: Collaborate with educators and outside professionals to develop and implement curriculum frameworks that meet student needs and reflect state standards while executing enhanced programmatic opportunities for our middle school students.

* Community Engagement: Foster strong relationships with parents, community organizations, and all stakeholders to advocate for public education and school community needs.

* Policy Implementation: Work with the Board of Trustees to continually evaluate and update all school policies.

* Student Achievement: Work with the administrative team to monitor student progress, analyze data, and implement interventions to improve academic outcomes for all students.

* Advocacy: Represent the school at local, state, and federal levels to secure school choice funding and support for current and future educational initiatives.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

* Connecticut State Certification 093

* Master's degree in education administration or related field

* Extensive experience in school leadership roles, such as principal and central office administration

* Proven ability to manage complex budgets and allocate resources effectively

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with diverse stakeholders

* Excellent analytical skills to interpret data and make informed decisions

* Leadership qualities to inspire and motivate staff

* Understanding of educational policy and legal requirements

* Grant writing and management experience/skills

Benefits:

All certified staff participate in the Connecticut Teacher Retirement system. We offer salary and benefits that are commensurate with all area public schools including a base salary range of $160,000-$180,000, along with robust benefits, including medical, dental, and a generous 403(b) matching retirement plan.
