Job Title Alleghany Center Part-Time Front Desk Associate Job Description
This position is at the Alleghany Center in Sparta, NC. The Part-Time Front Desk Associate will serve as the first point of contact for the Wilkes Community College (WCC) Alleghany Center and Blue Ridge Business Development Center (BDC). This is a multi-faceted position, working with students, faculty, staff, and the community.
Full Time or Part Time Part Time Essential Duties Summary
Standard hours: 10:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. M-Th with a 30-minute lunch (with occasional modifications based on special events)
1. Monitor front doors for safety and security.
2. Greet and direct people entering the building.
3. Answer front desk telephones for BDC and WCC, providing information as appropriate.
4. Manage shared lobby for building.
5. Manage WCC laptop cart.
6. Manage classroom access.
7. Assist instructors as needed with technology issues, making copies, etc.
8. Schedule events in the BDC conference room calendar.
9. Perform general office duties.
10. Monitor cleanliness and orderliness of Student Commons, WCC classrooms, and BDC conference room.
11. Follow procedures to secure building at end of shift.
12. Support WCC staff with events and administrative duties as assigned.
13. Provides data management and administrative support for WDCE as follows:
* Supports the director in development of WDCE courses, including coordination of instructor schedules, room utilization, supplies, materials, equipment, textbook orders, etc.
* Registers and processes WDCE course registrations and other paperwork including instructor contracts, rosters, course evaluations, payroll records, instructor travel, and certification materials in coordination with the Records Manager for timely processing.
* Requests Moodle shells for WDCE instructors, enrolls students in Moodle, runs Moodle attendance and grade reports.
14. Other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Required Qualifications
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Must have excellent customer service skills, including a positive telephone presence, for greeting students, staff, and visitors in a pleasant and professional manner.
* Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including email.
* Must be able to prioritize tasks.
* Must be highly motivated: a self-starter, reliable, and dependable.
Preferred Qualifications
* Associate degree in related field.
* Knowledge of and experience working with Microsoft Office products.
* Bilingual is a plus.
Physical Demands
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.
Essential functions of this position require lifting, manual dexterity, mobility (i.e., locking/unlocking doors, monitoring the center, etc.), and the ability to communicate.
Medium work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting only occasionally, walking, and standing are required regularly, incumbents may be required to kneel, crouch/squat, crawl, climb, stoop, turn/twist, balance, reach, or handle.
Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability, and creative problem-solving skills are important.
