Job Summary:

Develops policy, directs, and coordinates ammonia and utilities activities, such as the operation, maintenance and optimization of ammonia refrigeration systems and other utility systems within HP Hood's 12 production facilities and warehouses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

* Lead/collaborate with teams that will operate, maintain, and troubleshoot ammonia refrigeration systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and related equipment.

* Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards for ammonia refrigeration systems.

* Perform routine inspections, efficiency recommendations and direct preventive maintenance on utility systems, including boilers, glycol systems, and HVAC. Familiar with regulatory inspections related to ammonia refrigeration; provide advice to management and company executives regarding OSHA PSM/EPA RMP issues.

* Monitor system performance and adjust optimize efficiency and reliability.

* Respond to emergency situations and assist repairs as needed to minimize downtime.

* Review accurate records of maintenance activity at the facilities.

* Conduct regular internal audits, and lead outside agency audits at the plant facilities.

* Collaborate with operations, safety, and engineering departments to ensure seamless operation of utility systems.

* Strengthen PSM competency across the organization, train employees & supervisors in safe work practices related to anhydrous ammonia. Provide training and guidance to junior technicians and other staff members.

* Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in ammonia refrigeration and utility systems.

* Aides with implementation of safety policies & procedures per anhydrous ammonia operations.

* Attend monthly PSM meetings and serve as team member/liaison with PSM coordinators, Plant Managers, EHS staff and Engineering representatives.

* Oversees PSM administration efforts serve as co-host for 3-year PSM audits, 5-year Process Hazard Analysis (PHA's), 5-year independent Mechanical Integrity (MI) inspections and 5-year IIAR-9 audits at Hood's processing plants. Monitor recommendations from these efforts, influence urgency to address recommendations using drive for results while sharing best practices between Hood's processing plants.

* Participate in Pre-Start-up Safety Reviews (PSSR) prior to startup of new or modified processes (equipment) or after an extended shut down period.

* Maintain membership with International Institute for Ammonia Refrigeration (IIAR) and Refrigerating Engineers & Technicians Association (RETA).

* Attend ammonia refrigeration industry conferences; maintain relationships with industry peers.

* Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

* Must be familiar with refrigeration theory, knowledge of IIAR, OSHA & EPA standards and rules.

* Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a Related Field

* Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in ammonia refrigeration and utility systems.

* Required to have Operator II certification and preferred credentials include certification or completion of anhydrous ammonia coursework, in addition, food & beverage or related manufacturing experience is a plus.

* Travel 50- 60%
