Scheduled Hours37.5Position SummaryPosition provides environmental and nutritional care for research animals housed at the Danforth Campus in accordance with the regulations and guidelines of the Animal Welfare Act, the Public Health Service, and University policies to assure a quality animal care program that supports the research and teaching at Washington UniversityJob DescriptionPrimary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Monitors and documents daily animal health and welfare while performing animal husbandry duties. Animal husbandry duties to include: daily animal health checks, daily water bottle and cage checks; provision of appropriate food and water; cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required; recording animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols.
  • Washes and cleans/sterilizes cages, pens and equipment.
  • Prepares washing and disinfecting solutions and performs general housekeeping duties as assigned.
  • Receives and processes newly arrived animals, administers routine medications and special diets as instructed.
  • Receives and stores material and supplies.
  • Participates in training, continuing education, AALAS certification and Occupational Health programs.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science or coursework in Biology field.
  • Animal care experience with lab animals.
  • AALAS certification.
  • Basic computer skills, ability to work effectively with minimum supervision, set and execute priorities.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent high school certification.
  • One year of work-related animal care experience.
