Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):
Works under the immediate supervision of the City of Boston Animal Shelter Manager and the Director of Animal Care and Control. Ensures all animals are cared for and treated in a humane manner.
Responsibilities
* Ensures all animals are provided with the appropriate amount of food and water.
* Follows established disease control and daily cleaning protocols.
* Cleans animal cages, quarters, equipment, and utensils.
* Assists with animal intake and evaluations.
* Creates and maintains necessary animal records.
* Performs related work as required.
Work Environment:
* Exposure to animals, dander, debris, odors, approved cleaning solutions, airborne particles, dust, and zoonotic diseases.
* Exposure to various weather conditions when working outside with animals.
Minimum Entrance Qualifications
* Applicant must have at least one (1) year of experience with the handling of animals.
* Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel, Google Calendar, Docs, and email, and Chameleon preferred.
* Ability to safely handle, restrain, walk, and exercise animals of all sizes.
* Ability to safely work with animals that may be injured, unruly, vicious, or otherwise dangerous.
* Tetanus and rabies (pre-exposure) inoculations are required or must be waived.
* Ability to work well and communicate effectively with the public, employees, and volunteers.
* Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
* Ability to routinely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
* Requires frequent and/or prolonged walking, bending, lifting, and stooping.
