Yourmissions : Location: Anniston, AL Job Summary and Purpose: Work to provide animal husbandry, care and technical assistance for the departments of Animal Services and Quality Control. Provide support for quality control testing of animal pharmaceutical products. Provide support for Anniston production, facility and warehouse operations, as needed. Responsibilities and Key Duties: 1. Daily animal care and record keeping • Monitor and maintain environment, feed, and water supply for test animals • Daily observation to evaluate health status of animals, monitoring for sickness or mortality • Apply appropriate animal identification • Accurate and timely recording of data of animal containment areas daily and other pertinent forms/supporting documents • Comply with specific procedures and regulations in order to maintain bio-security and bio-containment in the animal facilities • Comply with USDA regulations in 9 CFR 113 2. Animal containment facilities • Decontaminate, clean, and disinfect the animal isolators and facilities • Maintain accurate and concurrent records of cleaning procedures and other pertinent documents/forms • Prepare disinfectant solutions used in cleaning and bio-security procedures • Keep facilities organized and maintain equipment records • Assist with minor repairs of equipment (feeders, waterers, brooders) • Notify area supervisor of issues with equipment • Assist with lawn care/maintenance of animal grounds (mow lawn, weed eating, brush control, limited pest control as necessary) • Primary set up animal containment areas for the next animal trial/test • Travel to pick up birds for testing, supplies and feed as necessary. • Perform winterizing and seasonal protocols, as necessary. 3. Technical support for QC • Assist and/or perform the movement, tagging, restraint, and treatment of test animals • Assist and/or perform inoculation of animals for QC. • Assist and/or perform administration of live challenges to test animals • Assist with animal necropsies, disposal, disinfection, and record keeping • Assist and/or perform humane euthanasia procedures at the termination of tests in accordance with AVMA guidelines • Disposes of test animals in accordance with operating, protocol, or bio-security procedures • Assist with QC inventory counts • Perform proper beak trimming • Perform basic animal vaccine techniques 4. Assist with general production, warehouse and facility operations, as needed. • Assist in Marek's Diluent Production activities (sealing bags, printing bags, packing, making boxes, loading/unloading autoclave). • Assist with crimping and packing activities for Circomune. • Assist with general equipment procedures (cleanup, setup and line clearance). • Assist with general boiler and autoclave operations. • Perform general warehouse operations (loading/unloading shipments, organizing materials, pallet stacker operations, preparing and wrapping pallets for shipment, etc.) • Assist with general maintenance (filter changes, light bulb changes, preventative maintenance for equipment). • Assist with weekly cycle counts. 5. Technical / Functional Competencies: • Ability to comply with the instruction of vets in practical daily work. • Basic knowledge on GLP/GCP roles and regulations to follow. • Fundamental understanding and ability to work with study documentation and study processes. • Contribute to study planning regarding the practical daily work. • Familiar with fundamental data management and document management procedures. • Ability to understand and execute on project assignments. • Ability to make clinical observations and maintain concurrent records • Basic/practical understanding of all applicable USDA, federal, and state regulations for animal testing • Knowledgeable about proper restraint of animals for vaccination techniques • Ability to perform basic techniques of animal tagging and beak trimming • Ability to perform basic departmental vaccination techniques • Operational understanding of departmental equipment • Use of special software for management of technical equipment in the animal testing facility. • Basic data entry and computer skills • Ability to work in both a team environment and individual setting • Ability to work outside of set schedule, including weekends and holidays, as needed Qualifications: Education - High School Diploma or GED Work Experience - Previous experience in animal care and husbandry preferred, especially with poultry. Physical Requirements: • Ability to read, write legibly and communicate in English • Visual inspection • Stand 90% of shift • Lift up to 50 lbs • Bending Working Conditions: • Work will be performed both in an indoor and outdoor environment designed for the comfort of animals. Ability to work in all weather conditions required • Bio-security is maintained through multiple showers and clothes changes per day • Exposure to animal or poultry dander, animal waste and odor, and other potential allergens Travel Required: • Occasional travel required to pick up birds, feed and supplies.
