An Urgent Care Advanced Practice Provider (PA or NP) provides medical care in an urgent care setting, where patients receive treatment for non-life-threatening illnesses or injuries that require immediate attention. The role is fast-paced and demands quick decision-making, strong clinical skills, and the ability to work independently, as well as in a collaborative environment with physicians and other healthcare providers.Key Responsibilities:Patient Assessment and Evaluation:Perform thorough medical assessments of patients, including taking medical histories and performing physical examinations.Diagnose and treat common acute illnesses and injuries such as infections, minor fractures, sprains, rashes, and cold/flu symptomsOrdering and Interpreting Tests:Order necessary laboratory tests, imaging studies (X-rays, CT scans), and diagnostic procedures.Interpret test results to develop an appropriate treatment plan.Treatment and Procedures:Administer medications, vaccinations, and other treatments as prescribed.Provide minor procedures like suturing, splinting, wound care, and I&D (Incision and Drainage) as needed.Manage basic trauma cases like lacerations, burns, and fractures.Collaboration and Communication:Collaborate with supervising physicians and other healthcare staff to deliver comprehensive patient care.Communicate effectively with patients and their families to explain diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive measures.Documentation:Maintain accurate and timely medical records using electronic health records (EHR) systems.Document patient encounters, treatments, follow-up care, and any referrals made to specialists or other healthcare providers.Emergency Response:Respond to emergencies and acute situations within the scope of practice, such as stabilizing patients before transfer to a higher level of care if necessary.Patient Education:Provide patient education regarding disease prevention, self-care, and treatment adherence.Supervisory Role:May supervise or mentor medical assistants, technicians, and other support staff in the urgent care setting.RequirementsRequired Qualifications: Education: Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program or Nurse Practitioner program. Licensing/Certification: Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). State licensure as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Supports (PALS) required. Experience: Experience in urgent care, emergency medicine, or a related clinical field is often preferred. Skills: Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational and time-management abilities. Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, and move around the clinical setting for extended periods. Ability to lift, carry, and assist patients as necessary. Work Environment:Typically work in urgent care centers, walk-in clinics, or healthcare facilities with extended hours.Shift work may be required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on the facility's operating hours.Salary Description Pay range $98,008 -$129,910 per year
