JOB SUMMARY
Under immediate supervision, to work with and assist an Electronic Technician, receiving increasing instruction and experience in the installation and maintenance and repair of various electronic, radio, telecommunications, optical-fiber, lightwave and electro-mechanical equipment in the general substation, water canal and power plant environment.
Examples of Duties
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with installation, repair, and maintenance of communications equipment which includes but is not limited to microwave, multiple addresses, VHF, UHF, telephone and telecommunication systems administration.
Assist with installation, repair, and maintenance of substation components, systems and equipment which includes but is not limited to LoadTap Changers (LTC's), regulators, governors, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's), security systems, water level controls, water flow monitoring systems, transducers, annunciators, panel meters, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) equipment, and various types of computer hardware and software including PC's, printers, modems and industrial computers.
Assist in performing hardware/software integration procedures to provide correct operation of these control systems including system setup, addressing, protocol definition and equipment settings.Provide proper addressing of hardware/software problems and troubleshooting.
Assist with installation and repair of power plant electronic equipment such as exciters, speed controls, relay logic circuits, wicket gate operators, etc.
Assist with installation, repair, and maintenance of radio equipment such as mobile radios, portables, microwave, Multiple Address System (MAS) radios, base stations and spread spectrum equipment.
Assist with installation, repair, and maintenance of Supervising Controller and Data Acquisition (SCADA) equipment including various types of transducers, modem interface and other analog input devices.
Assist in performing the District's Moves, Adds and Changes (MAC) of telephones and the ability to change the software in the Public Branch Exchange (PBX) appropriately.Also install and maintain assorted telephone systems and peripheral devices such as Voice Mail, Business View-a system for Automatic Call Distribution (ACD) group reports, paging system, and announcers, etc.
Assist with the installation of new and maintenance of existing wiring for high speed data to the desk (LAN/TI) and documentation of wring.
Assist with installation, repair, and maintenance of fiber optic cable, light wave and interface equipment.
Assist with, when necessary, general installation, repair, and maintenance security and fire alarm systems, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) systems, gate operators, control consoles, voice recorders, dispatch center electronic equipment, weather station equipment, card access and emergency paging systems.
Maintain power plant electronic control systems.
Respond to emergency situations and perform on-call duty as assigned.
Perform other related duties as required or assigned by supervisor.

Education
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by specialized training in electronics.
Experience

Skills and Abilities
Interpersonal and Communication.
Ability to: follow oral and written instructions; and establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Technical and Analytical.
Knowledge of: electricity and electronics; fundamental safety precautions; and methods, materials, equipment and tools used in the installation and maintenance of electronic equipment.Ability to: acquire skill in the use of tools, equipment, and techniques of the electronics trade; learn to read and interpret schematics; prepare reports; use and care for the tools and equipment; and learn troubleshooting techniques and repair of electrical and electronic systems.
Supplemental Information
Necessary Special Requirements
Possession of an appropriate California driver's license.
Obtain a general radio telephone FCC license.
Must furnish own hand tools.
This classification will be required to work a scheduled on-call period. Employees who are assigned an on-call period have a response time obligation as listed below:
TURLOCKBROADWAY YARD CONTROL CENTER
An on call employee who is dispatched from the Turlock Broadway Yard Control Center must be able to arrive at the Control Center, within thirty (30) minutes of the time they are called out. The on-call employee must obey all applicable traffic laws when responding to a call out.
