We offer a variety of programming throughout the year.Lifeguard Role:Chelsea Piers Field House Brooklyn is looking for experienced, dedicated, and passionate Lifeguards to work in our brand-new state-of-the-art facility. There are full-time, part-time, and seasonal positions available. Our Lifeguards will be expected to maintain consistent surveillance of patrons in the facility and act with immediate and appropriate protocol to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency. Responsibilities:The responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:
  • Execute proper surveillance and rescue techniques when needed
  • Provides emergency care and treatment as required or until the arrival of emergency medical services
  • Present professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintain a high standard of customer service
  • Assist with the Front Desk station as needed including but not limited to checking in customers, answering phone calls and directing questions to the appropriate staff
  • Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
  • Entering the water to assist with pool maintenance or pool orientation adjustment
  • Maintaining the pool decks cleanliness via various cleaning techniques
  • Assisting patrons as needed
Qualifications:
  • Ability and willingness to achieve and maintain an active American Red Cross (ARC) certification (training provided)
  • Participate in a required minimum amount of in-service training each month as set by Aquatics Management
  • Participating in lifeguard training and on-the-spot evaluations and if necessary remediation based on Director's discretion
  • Must be willing and able to complete a standard swim evaluation including a continuous 200 yard swim, two minutes of treading without the use of hands, and a retrieval of a 10lb weight at the bottom of the pool without the use of goggles
  • Must be prepared to lift objects as heavy as 55lbs
  • Must enjoy working with kids
Swim Coach Role:Chelsea Piers Field House Brooklyn is looking for full-time, part-time, and seasonal experienced, dedicated and passionate swim coaches to teach water safety and proper swim techniques based on Chelsea Piers Swim School curriculum.Responsibilities:The responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:
  • Be vocal and animated: Bring energy and enthusiasm to each class you teach
  • Be punctual: Setting up your teaching area before the start of classes, cleaning up your area after class. Checking in with front desk for any new students or make-up lessons. Begin and end your classes and lessons on time
  • Skill Knowledge: A background in competitive swimming or teaching lessons is helpful but not required. Training in the Chelsea Piers Swim School curriculum is provided. Instructors must be willing and able to demonstrate and communicate the in water drills and stroke stages in the curriculum
  • Classroom Management: Able to organize your classes based on your swimmers abilities. Convey key points about swimming in articulate/age appropriate manner to swimmers
  • Teamwork: Be willing to help your teammates. Have the flexibility to teach in different classes to give the best possible instruction when asked
  • Be prepared for each class: Know your students names and where they are in the program progression. Be able to keep tidy notes about their progress that are accessible onsite
  • Complete progress reports and report cards to give valuable feedback to our customers by the designated deadlines established by the program director
  • Ability to teach in various pools of varying degrees
  • Attendance and participation during trainings: Ability and willingness to complete our training program. Attended and participate in all staff meetings and in-service trainings held throughout each semester
