Job DetailsJob LocationNichols College - Dudley, MAPosition TypeFull TimeJob ShiftAnyDescriptionNichols College Residence Life - Area CoordinatorDEPARTMENT: Office of Residence LifeREPORTS TO: Director of Residence Life and Community StandardsJOB SUMMARY:The Area Coordinator (AC) is a live-in, full-time (12 month) professional Student Life staff member reporting to the Director of Residence Life and Community Standards. The AC assists students in creating a respectful, safe and comfortable living environment conducive to enhancing personal and academic growth. This position is responsible for all aspects of the Nichols College Residence Life program in an area consisting of 1-4 buildings with approximately 250-350 residents. The AC will be an integral team member who is energetic, flexible, and appreciates the value of program assessment and evaluation.Area Coordinators are given a partially furnished 1-2 bedroom apartment and are considered an exempt employee, compensated minimally at the exempt rate of pay.Please include a cover letter, resume, and references.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:Bachelors required: Masters Degree in Student Personnel or related area preferred. Residence Life experience and effective communication skills are a must.Pride in ones work, willingness to contribute to the positive welfare of students, and the ability to use ones common sense are a must.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Community DevelopmentUnderstand the philosophy of Student Development and apply theories to practical and every day residence hall experiences.Be available and interact with students and staff on a daily basis.Assist staff and students programming for floors, building and residence areasEncourage, advise and mentor student involvement in clubs, organizations and other campus life opportunities well maintaining community standards in the residence halls.Serve as a role model and maintain a standard of professional conduct with students.SupervisionSupervise 9-14 Resident Assistants/Student Staff.Conduct weekly student staff meetings.Meet with student supervisees individually to provide support and direction.Assist in recruiting, selecting and training RA staff.Assist in planning and implementing in-service training and provide development activities to promote positive job performance within the student staff.Evaluate staff regularly and hold staff accountable to job expectations.Counseling/AdvisingBe sensitive and responsive to students' emotional, personal, behavioral and academic needs; advising and making appropriate referrals.Attend to the health and safety of residents in medical, psychological, and other crisis/emergency situations. Being aware of and responsive to the effects such crises have on the community.Be knowledgeable of the various campus resources: Health Services, Public Safety, Counseling Services, Career Services, Dining and Student Involvement. Making referrals and working with these agencies to assist students.Be accessible and approachable to students.AdministrationAssist with the opening, everyday functions, and closing of the residence halls.Assist with Summer and Fall Orientation as well as Admissions Open House events.Process maintenance work orders, RA duty logs, and utilize conduct and housing software.Maintain office hours and communicate as needed with the Office of Public Safety, Cleaning Services, the Department of Facilities Management and others.Attend regular Residence Life staff meetings.Serve on assigned committees.Chair/coordinate department committees and/or events when needed.Provide campus wide on-duty coverage according to a rotating schedule, which does include weekend, and some holidays year-round.Complete collateral assignments as assigned by supervisor.Policy Enforcement/Crisis ManagementCommunicate, interpret, and enforce College and residence hall policies and procedures. Encourage behavior consistent with the Nichols Student Code of Conduct and hold students accountable for their actions.Develop and maintain a working relationship with the Public Safety, Health Services, and Counseling Services.Challenge, confront, and follow-up on negative behavior and vandalism.Serve as a conduct administrator as needed. Conduct conferences/hearings and administer sanctions appropriately and in a timely manner.Recommend changes in policies and procedures.Other Duties as AssignedAttend weekly staff meetings with colleagues.Participate in professional staff training in August, January and throughout the academic year.Meet weekly with supervisor.Assist with the planning and implementation of RA training and on-going staff development.Be available on a rotating basis to respond to situations and provide solutions to necessary requestsParticipate in campus-wide recruitment and selection of student staff.Coordinate one or more of the campus-wide administrative functions, (i.e. in-service training of all student staff, Residence Life Newsletter, Theme Week Activities, etc.).Maintain active relationships with professional associations; including attendance, participation and/or presentations at state, regional, and national conferences.Assist with Summer Camps and Conferences as instructed by supervisorPerform administrative tasks as assigned.Other duties as assigned.
