Chemours is seeking an Area Manager II to join our Advanced Performance Materials operations team! This position will report directly to the Plant Manager at our Fayetteville, NC location. The Operations Manager position will provide strategic and operation guidance for the safe and cost-effective operation of our Nafion--- manufacturing facilities. The role has multiple direct exempt reports. These include Production Leaders and Production Supervisors. This role will also be accountable for the non-exempt production technicians and other support roles for the manufacturing area (approx. 75). The Operations Manager will interact directly with business and supply chain teams for coordination of schedules and understanding of customer needs. The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Lead operation of the Ion Exchange Materials areas which supports our Nafion--- power brand within Chemours. Areas include polymer, membrane, and film production.
- Set expectations and hold people accountable for Values and Behaviors compliance in EHS, PSM, and Ethics and is expected to be a role model for appropriate behavior.
- Lead the unit in a safe and environmentally sound manner to set and meet quality, cost, yield, and OEE objectives. Ensures continuous and efficient production in desired quantity and quality, and/or effectively manages daily maintenance work and shutdowns.
- Accountable for translating the business strategy into actionable operations and improvement plans, including establishing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). This will be in partnership with the peer Manufacturing Technology Manager responsible for the IXM areas.
- Provide input to the 3-5 year site strategic planning process which supports the business and corporate strategy.
- Communicate and implement business objectives, priorities, and progress.
- Develop and implement resource plans for effective performance and manage employee and labor relations.
- Develop individuals working toward or in First Line Supervisor roles and manufacturing support assignments
- Champion improvement programs and asset productivity best practices across the area with the use of continuous improvement methodologies such as Agile, Six Sigma -, and Lean.
- Develop and implement plans to meet budget commitments for production, unit fixed and variable cost, and cost productivity.
- Manages processes to achieve excellence in Quality and Customer Service expectations. The following is required for this role:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or applicable Manufacturing Experience
- Previous direct line supervisory experience.
- 10 or more years of experience in operations
- Prior experience in a people manager role
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and the ability to work with a diverse population of employees and contractors
- Thorough process safety management skills in high hazard operations
- Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Solid understanding of site safety procedures and corporate safety philosophy
- Understanding of key environmental regulatory and permit requirements impacting the production facility
- Ability to focus organization and drive results The following is preferred for the role:
- Understanding of IATF 16949 and ISO 9001
- Experience in chemical plant operations
- Green Belt certification and/or Agile, Lean Manufacturing experience in highly desirable
- Familiarity with SAP for cost/maintenance administration
