Lurie Children's Hospital of ChicagoJob DescriptionRequiring only one day a week, with flexibility on the day.Develops, facilitates and documents medical art therapy to children, adolescents and adults in regard to psychosocial goals within the context of their illness, treatment and life experiences. Collaborates with psychosocial and medical teams regarding care for patients and families. Educates staff and families on the efficacy, benefits and provision of medical art therapy services. As a teaching hospital, we fulfill the mission of educating students in their pursuit of becoming medical art therapists.Essential Job Functions:1. Conducts medical art therapy sessions to provide clinical interventions to address the mental health and psychosocial needs of patients and families throughout the hospital through creative expression and verbal processing.2. Develops therapeutic rapport and alliance with patients/families that are caring, trusting, reliable, and beneficial. Identifies, assesses, and responds to individualized patient/family needs and provides timely and effective interventions for families in crisis situations with complex psychosocial needs. 3. Provides timely assessment, treatment planning, and clinical documentation towards a patient's psychological, emotional, communication/cognition, behavioral, physical, and quality of life goals.4. Collaborates to coordinate service delivery and education of role and benefits of medical art therapy with patients/families and amongst the psychosocial, medical, and other teams in order to prioritize caseloads and maintain a holistic perspective of each family's care. Makes necessary referrals to other team members and/or community resources.5. In collaboration with palliative care, providing support and legacy building to families of critically and/or terminally ill patients through the art making and verbal/counseling process of medical art therapy. 6. Oversees, supports, collaborates with medical art therapy student's learning and supervision needs. Onboarding and training practicum students. Other education/clinical supervision provision as needed. 7.
