NATURE OF DUTIES: The nature of the duties are to providing effective, therapeutic patient centered care under the direction of the physician, and guided by the philosophy, goals and objectives of the facility, the accepted standards of care, and state and federal regulations. This position would be responsible for CIS ASC out-patients and provide care consistent with the objectives of the treatment plan designed for the patient and as directed by the attending physician. Under the supervision and guidance of physicians, the registered nurse assists in planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating care providing professional care to their clients. The RN is responsible and accountable for individual, autonomous nursing practice and determines the appropriate delegation of tasks and nursing activities in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1.Ability to perform nursing functions as related to the pre and post procedural processes2.Admits, discharges, and transfers patients of the ASC per policy3.Provides a safe and supportive environment for the patient4.Respects the patients right to privacy, dignity and confidentiality, and demands the same of other team members5.Utilizes specialized knowledge in the nursing process in assessing the needs of the patient and implements appropriate nursing interventions6.Recognizes legal and policy limits of individual practice7.Monitors the activities of nonprofessional team members8.Receives, documents and implements physicians' orders9.Maintains accurate records of controlled substances10.Is knowledgeable of healthcare costs, and monitors the efficient use of equipment and supplies11.Organizes and maintains a neat work area12.Assists with housekeeping tasks13.Completes all appropriate documentation14.Attends and participates in staff and departmental meetings15.Is knowledgeable and responsive to emergency situations (cardiac arrest, malignant hyperthermia, drug reactions, internal and external disaster)16.Assesses physical and emotional needs of patients and implements appropriate nursing interventions17. Consistently demonstrates and fosters a positive work attitude with respect to physicians, management, co-workers, patients, and visitors.18.Abides by all federal, state, and local regulations applicable to his / her education, job performance, and patient care.19.Performs all other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing Services, Facility Administration, or Governing Body SPECIFIC DUTIES:The Pre/Post Operative Registered Nurse will fulfill all essential duties and responsibilities of the RN job description. These duties include but are not limited to:1.The RN will perform a comprehensive nursing assessment, develop and implement a patient treatment plan consistent with the objectives for treatment of the patients having various cardiovascular procedures in the ambulatory surgery center.2.The patient and family members will be included in the patient care planning and setting of discharge objectives3.The RN performs a comprehensive nursing assessment of an individual patient consistent with established standards of care, identifies health care needs, establishes appropriate nursing diagnosis, plans nursing care measures, documents appropriately, interprets data accurately, sets priorities, and communicates with all members of the health care team4.The RN collaborates with physicians, and other health care providers in the management of the patient's care and evaluates the responses to all interventions5.Provides individualized health education to the patient and family members from admission through discharge using any appropriate methods/resources necessary to meet the education goals, prepares the patient for diagnostic or surgical procedures, implements holistic therapeutic measures to promote healing and wellness6.Communicates effectively with all age groups, which pertains to the patients served7.Demonstrates competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, administers treatments as per standards, interprets normal parameters of diagnostic data, and reports abnormalities of diagnostic data in a timely manner8.Documents accurately and completely in the EMR and other forms as per established standards.9.Ability to work as a team member in a stressful environment, to follow directions/instructions of his/her supervisor. Consistent attendance is required. Complies with all CIS ASC policies, procedures, practices, and Standards of Behavior.10.Works at the Ambulatory Surgery Center with physicians and technologists in the performance of diagnostic and interventional lab procedures.11.Is familiar with and at all times cognizant of radiation safety as it pertains to the patient and the staff.12.Uses sterile technique in preparing for cases, in opening sterile products, in assisting with invasive procedures, and in administration of medications.13.Participates in the preparation and cleanup of the ambulatory surgery center prior to and after each case.14.Documents in the medical record accurately and timely for each case under the patient's designated medical record number.15.Completes narcotic drug counts with second RN each morning and each evening and immediately reports any discrepancies to the Director of Nursing.16.Assembles patient charts and checks charts for completeness of all components on day prior to procedure/surgery.If charts are not complete, obtain necessary paperwork, lab results, etc, and places on chart17.Provides for patient safety by use of monitors, side rails, assistance with ambulation and use of call light18.Monitor and provide nursing care to the patient post procedure per policy and as ordered by physician in accordance with procedure performed.19.Discharges patient upon order of the attending physician in accordance with procedure and as per policy20.Arranges transfer of patient to hospital, as needed, according to procedure as ordered by the physician.21.Assists with preoperative and postoperative patient phone calls.22.Reviews charts for completeness and physician signatures.23.Successfully completes training programs such as CPR/ACLS, First Aid, Infection Control, Infectious Disease, and/or other programs to maintain ASC standards such as: quality control and safety issues.STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE:1.Keeps work area neat and organized. Reports safety issues to team leader immediately.2.Works efficiently and manages time wisely. Assist other employees when all duties are complete.3.Communicates any problems, difficulties or concerns regarding job duties to the team leader.4.Performs all duties without significant error occurring with any regularity.5.Meets all deadlines and timeframes for completion of assignments.6.Represents CIS ASC in a professional manner at all times. Demonstrates acceptable ability to interact with physicians, staff ( internal customers ) and external customers (patients, family members, insurance companies, home health etc.) on a professional level at all times. 7.Exhibits good communication skills with physicians, patients, team leaders, and co-workers at all times. 8.Exhibits whenever possible a harmonious relationship with other CIS ASC employees in order to accomplish the duties and responsibilities of the position.While perfect harmonious relationships with all employees is sometimes not achievable, not more than an occasional complaint should be received by the team leader about the incumbent of this position. 9.The employee shall work and relate cooperatively with all other employees (internal customers) of CIS ASC to assure optimum care for the patients of CIS ASC and to achieve standards of care set forth by the CIS ASC medical staff.10.Adheres to the CIS ASC Compliance Plan as it pertains to the above specific job duties. Uses best efforts to maintain compliance by following the CIS ASC Compliance Plan, attending CIS ASC compliance education, following medical documentation guidelines, and communicating concerns regarding compliance issues. 11.Performs accurate and complete documentation in the patient's medical record, when applicable. This includes documentation in both the paper record and the electronic medical record (EMR). 12.Work with the electronic medical record (EMR) staff to maintain quality and work towards future EMR development. 13.Maintains patient confidentiality according to the HIPAA standards of privacy and security.QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:1.Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.2.Current licensure the Louisiana State Board of Registered Nurses3.Advance Cardiac Life Support Certification4.Basic Life Support Certification5.Effective Communication Skills6.Desired:a.Advanced certification in field of Cardiology/Cardiovascular nursingb.Two years related nursing experience
