Posting DetailsPosition Information Job Title Assistant/Associate Dean of Graduate Students Job Description The Assistant/Associate Dean of Graduate Students is dedicated to helping graduate students make the most of their time at Sarah Lawrence, supporting students in all aspects of their life and work. The Assistant/Associate Dean of Graduate Students reports to the Dean of Graduate and Professional Studies and helps support the graduate student experience at Sarah Lawrence by working collaboratively with students to problem-solve and provide referrals to appropriate offices on campus, such as Health and Wellness, Disability Services, the Learning Commons, the Title IX Office, the Library, Career Services, and other offices focused on student services. Essential Duties Summary Responsibilities include:Graduate Student Work
- Meeting with students to discuss changes of status and processing the paperwork associated with these changes
- Liaising with the Health and Wellness Office, Student Accounts, and Financial Aid to support graduate student enrollment and transition
- Coordinating with Health and Wellness, Disability Services, the Learning Commons, the Title IX Office, the Library, Career Services, and other offices focused on student services to best support graduate student life and work
- Supporting graduate students who are struggling academically in collaboration with program directors and other relevant support offices at the college
- Supporting graduate and professional student professional development in collaboration with program directors and Career Services
- Managing the submission of theses and capstone projects in Graduate and Professional Studies
Graduate Student Life
- Coordinating communications to graduate students throughout the academic year, including social media, email, and internal website materials
- Coordinating graduate student Orientation and Commencement programming
- Supporting graduate and professional student events in coordination with the Office of Graduate Studies and undergraduate student offices
- Coordinating programming and support structures for all graduate students, including BIPOC students, international students, LGBTQIA+ students, first generation students, graduate students with dependents, graduate students who work full-time, and students returning to graduate work after a period of time away from a higher education setting
- Supporting graduate students in their housing search
Graduate Student Advising
- Advisor to the Graduate Student Association
- Advising and support for graduate student clubs and affinity groups, as needed
- Advising international students throughout their time at Sarah Lawrence, including processing I-20s, CPTs, and OPTs for international graduate students. This position will serve as a Designated School Official for this purpose.
Additional Duties
- Managing graduate student complaints and complaints against graduate students
- Managing graduate student files, records, email distribution lists, and directory information
- Maintaining graduate student handbook information
- Hiring, training, and managing graduate students working in the main office of Graduate and Professional Studies.
- Serving as the Graduate and Professional Studies representative to the Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Required Qualifications Required Qualifications and Experience
- Masters or doctoral degree
- At least three years post-secondary experience in professional student affairs/student development work and/or related work with graduate students
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and counseling skills, including conflict resolution skills
- The ability to establish strong working relationships with staff, faculty, and students, including evidence of demonstrated success as a collaborative and collegial colleague, leader, and administrator
- Evidence of commitment to the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging
- Experience processing I-20s, CPTs, and OPTs for international students or willingness to engage in provided training in order to do this work. Note that this person will be asked to serve as a Designated School Official.
Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Masters or doctoral degree in higher education administration, student affairs, or a related field
- Experience working with graduate students in professional student affairs/student development work
