We especially encourage women, people of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, veterans, and people with disabilities to apply.Position Title Assistant/Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry Position Number 896743 School/Division Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences-Natural Science DepartmentFull-Time or Part-Time Full-Time Description The Hofstra College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Organic Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at Hofstra University beginning September 1, 2025. The Chemistry Department welcomes applications in any area spanning organic chemistry.The Chemistry Department offers undergraduate degrees in Biochemistry and Chemistry (with ACS accreditation), as well as Forensic Science. A typical teaching load alternates between 2 and 3 courses per semester. The Chemistry Department serves only undergraduate students, with small class sizes (10-20) for junior and senior majors. DESCRIPTION: The candidate's responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Teaching organic chemistry lecture and lab
  • Teaching other upper-level courses in their area of expertise
  • Establishing a vibrant research program centered on undergraduates
  • Seeking external grant funding; intra- and extra-mural research collaborations are strongly encouraged
  • Providing service to the department, college, and university
  • Supporting efforts to create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for faculty, staff, and students. Experience advising and mentoring undergraduate students and individuals from groups underrepresented in STEM fields is highly desirable.
Qualifications
  • PhD in organic chemistry or related field required by time of employment.
  • Potential to establish a successful research program involving undergraduate students.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate chemistry courses
  • Recent peer-reviewed publications
  • Successful candidates will have demonstrated a commitment to promoting equity, diversity and inclusion in an educational environment
Preferred Quals Summary
  • Postdoctoral or industry work experience
  • Previous experience mentoring undergraduate students
  • Instructor-of-record for undergraduate organic chemistry course(s)
