Position Overview:

The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting the Head Athletic Trainer in the developing and administering a comprehensive sports medicine program for all of Florida National University's intercollegiate sports. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will also perform professional and administrative services essential for the successful implementation and development of the program, and they will also perform sports specific trainings.

Key Responsibilities:

* Communication Management: Respond promptly to daily communications via email and voicemail, addressing inquiries promptly and professionally.

* Policy Adherence and Ethical Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to the University's mission, policies, procedures, ethical standards, Catalog, Staff Handbook, and compliance with data protection regulations and pertinent legal regulations in all aspects of admission activities; as well as the University Athletic Department's vision, mission, values, and aims and objectives.

* University Engagement: Participate in university events, committees, self-studies, new student orientation, and commencement exercises and ceremonies as needed.

* Special Projects & Assigned Duties: Execute special projects assigned by the President, Director of Athletics, or another supervisor. Perform any other assigned duties as required.

* Compliance Adherence: Ensure strict compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972, as well as FNU Policies, Procedures, Rules and Regulations, the FNU Code of Ethics, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Florida Information Protection Act of 2014 (FIPA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 ( HIPAA ), and all other applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

* The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting the Head Athletic Trainer in developing the overall intercollegiate sports medicine program, including but not limited to team and student-athlete injury prevention, evaluations, management, treatment and rehabilitation, as well as educational programs, and counseling for student-athletes.

* The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting the Head Athletic Trainer in providing athletic training services, including attendance at scheduled team practices and travel to competitions as necessary. This includes, but is not limited to: taping, bracing, and padding of injuries; delivering therapeutic modalities; and performing necessary medical tasks (e.g. CPR, First Aid, AED, etc.).

* The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting the Head Athletic Trainer in maintaining the athletic training room, athletic training inventory, and other required materials to supply and operate the training room.

* The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting the Head Athletic Trainer in keeping and maintaining all records and documentation of student-athletes, including athletic physicals, insurance, injury reports, etc.

* The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting the Head Athletic Trainer in coordinating and scheduling physical examinations, and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete.

* The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting the Head Athletic Trainer in working with student-athletes and insurance companies relating to athletic injury related issues/expenses (e.g.: submitting insurance claims).

* The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting the Head Athletic Trainer in the formation of the FNU Athletic Training staff, including hiring recommendations, training and supervision of Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainers, and/or Student Athletic Trainers. This requires the ability to delegate responsibility and manage those individuals in completing assigned tasks.

* The Assistant Athletic Trainer will assist the Head Athletic Trainer schedule and coordinate the coverage of all athletic competitions, and necessary team practices.

* The Assistant Athletic Trainer will assist the Head Athletic Trainer with developing programs customized to meet individual needs relating to fitness, strength and conditioning, and nutrition.

* The Assistant Athletic Trainer will assist the Head Athletic Trainer with the development of the sports medicine program budget.

* The Assistant Athletic Trainer will assist the Head Athletic Trainer with the development of the athletic department Emergency Action Plan.

* The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for completing the necessary requirements / Continuing Education Units to maintain their athletic training licensure / ATC credentials.

* The Assistant Athletic Trainer shall help oversee that the coaching staff is knowledgeable about basic First Aid, and all head coaches are certified in CPR / AED.

* The Assistant Athletic Trainer will help evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the sports medical program.

* The Assistant Athletic Trainer must adhere to all policies and procedures of the NAIA, the USCAA, applicable Conferences, City of Hialeah, local municipalities, insurance providers, hospitals, etc.

* Act as a liaison to various areas within the Athletic Department.

Education, Experience, and General Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.

* Previous experience in Higher Education athletics is highly desirable.

* Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. May require overnight stays.

* Must be able to attend all athletic activities, contests, and travel with the team as required.

* Ability to work with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.

* Demonstrates critical thinking skills in problem solving and decision-making.

* Demonstrates confidentiality regarding information pertaining to all students, faculty, and staff.

* Maintains proper appearance and personal conduct both in person and on social media.

* Ability to effectively counsel student-athletes and coaches regarding sports medicine.

* Must ensure the maintenance of accurate medical records and reports.

* Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

* Uses effective communication skills taking into consideration body language, filters, listening, paraphrasing, and questions with students of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

* Excellent communication and computer skills required.

* Demonstrates ability to work in a team environment and work compatibly and cooperatively with the coaching staff and all University personnel.

* Project a positive image of Florida National University within the community of South Florida.

* Assist with fundraising, marketing, and promotional activities when needed.

* Develop and establish community involvement and participate in public relations activities.
