ASSISTANT BUYER

JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Buyer will support the Purchasing Manager in all aspects of procurement, ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of purchasing processes. This role requires a highly detail-oriented individual to manage purchase orders, pricing, inventory, budgets, and vendor relationships. The Assistant Buyer will also help monitor market trends and ensure that inventory levels align with company needs. This is an on-site position with hours 8am -4:30pm (M-F)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process special orders, approve invoices and handle inbound logistics to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.
  • Create and maintain detailed Excel spreadsheets for pricing, purchasing and inventory tracking.
  • Update the internal system (Lisa) to reflect real-time inventory levels and accurate pricing.
  • Vet new product lines, research new suppliers and make recommendations, negotiate with vendors
  • Data entry and analysis include compiling reports and statistics on product performance, prepare budgets and forecast purchasing trends
  • Purchase / replenish current product lines, inventory adjustments and cycle counts, monitor and maintain suitable inventory levels
  • Ongoing evaluation of inventory turns with analysis for improvement
  • Prepare competitive retail and pricing strategies
  • Assist the Sales Team in selling directs and material out of warehouse
  • Walk warehouses at least two days per week and share observations and suggestions with Operations Manager. An example of observations would be whether the inventory is being rotated, could inventory be organized in a better way, see how new products are packaged/labeled, how inventory is organized (i.e. fastest movers closer to trucks), cycle count discrepancies to try and locate product, improve how suppliers load on/in trailers.
  • Assist with vendor and customer programs and build positive, long-term relationships
  • Ensure communications and actions are in alignment with our mission, vision and culture
  • Manage time effectively, meet personal goals and work effectively with other team members
  • Adhere to all Company policies and procedures
  • Perform various other duties and special projects as assigned

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 3-5 year's related experience
  • Must have 3-5 years' experience within the building materials industry
  • Detailed orientated. Must be accurate in data entry
  • Strong computer, information and spreadsheet creation skills.
  • Proficiency of MS office and related software
  • Must be a highly motivated individual with excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Must possess strong time management and organizational skills, have the ability to multi-task and be detail oriented

EDUCATION

  • Associate's Degree in business or related field or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Bachelor's Degree a plus

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee can expect prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • The employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear; stand frequently; walk; use hands to finger, feel and handle objects; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must have the manual dexterity to file and use a computer keyboard, calculator and telephone
  • May occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • May work in weather
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision depth perception and an ability to adjust focus.
