Principal Responsibilities: Surprise Lake Camp seeks a year-round, Assistant Caretaker. Option to will live on site. The position offers a chance to live and work in a beautiful location with passionate, dedicated people. Along with the Head Caretaker and seasonal maintenance staff, the Assistant Caretaker works to ensure the safety and integrity of the site and facilities. This is a year-round position with benefits. The ideal candidate will have some skills such as: carpentry, electrical, small engine mechanics, painting, plumbing skills, and experience with facilities maintenance, and be willing to learn more. The ideal candidate will also have good problem-solving skills and the ability to laugh. Minimum Qualifications: Job Requirements and Responsibilities
  • Perform generalmaintenance repairs to buildings
  • Assist in majorrepairs
  • Assist in themaintenance of grounds and natural resources
  • Help maintainthe lake, pool, sewage system and water system
  • Assist in generalcamp clean-up
  • Help maintainvehicles
  • Assist inmanaging disposal of trash, garbage, and compost
  • Ensureappropriate documentation of maintenance activities, equipment andvehicles
  • Evening andweekend work will be required
  • Other duties asassigned
Facility Team Commitments
  • Act in a mannerthat positively represents Surprise Lake Camp
  • Help to buildawareness of Surprise Lake Camp's mission among the community
  • Provide supportto other members of the seasonal and year-round team
  • Practice theagency's policies and procedures
Qualifications & Certifications
  • At least 21years of age
  • Must have avalid driver's license and be approved by SLC's insurance company to drive
  • Must be able towork with children and receive satisfactory results from a thoroughbackground screening
  • Able to become acertified sewage system operator
  • Passion for SurpriseLake Camp's mission and values
  • Knowledgeof/experience with electrical, carpentry, painting, and plumbing equipmentand installation, small engine mechanics, general vehicle maintenance, andpool operations
  • Experience inbuilding and grounds maintenance
  • Experience withtools and equipment associated with the above
  • Have aptitudefor carpentry, plumbing and electrical skills
  • Comfortable withcomputers and able to use email, MS Word, and MS Excel.

  • Stronginterpersonal skills, especially with regards to accepting guidance andfeedback
  • Good and persistentproblem solver
  • Strong workethic, self-motivated
  • Ability tolisten and follow instructions
  • Must be flexibleand able to juggle multiple projects/tasks at once
  • Willingness toseek additional training to stay current on best practices
Essential Functions
  • Ability toeffectively communicate in person or by phone, and exchange accurateinformation
  • Ability to workand navigate in a variety of terrain and weather conditions
  • Ability torecord, handle, file, disperse, and maintain neat and orderly records
  • Ability tooperate a computer and other office technology
  • Ability to worklong and flexible hours
  • Ability to drivecamp vehicles, mowers, tractors, etc.
  • Ability to lift 75pounds
  • Ability tostoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to make repairs
  • Ability toascend and descend ladders
  • Ability tovisually assess facilities and vehicles
  • Ability andwillingness to live at camp year-round
