Big Bend Community College invites applications for part-time Assistant Coaching positions in the volleyball, wrestling, basketball, baseball, and softball programs . This position assists the Head Coach in the development of student athletes in a manner consistent with the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) coaching standards and the College's guiding principles. Performs all functions and activities within the guidelines and philosophy set forth in the BBCC Mission, Vision and Strategic Plan.

This is a part-time, seasonal position September through June. This position is overtime-exempt and receives a stipend of $1,500 - $3,000, pro-rated based upon the start date. Additional campus employment may be available based on the individual's qualification and interest.

Under the direction of the Head Coach:

* Under the direction of of the Head Coach, provides quality coaching and instruction to student-athletes participating in the program; develops, implements, and teaches related training sessions and techniques.

* Assist the Head Coach in teaching individual skills and strategies; build, develop, and evaluate teamwork; develop and enforce training rules.

* Assist in maintaining BBCC Athletic facilities used by the program.

* Assist in the supervision of student-athletes on trips and onsite during all program related practices, games, and functions.

* Monitor and support the academic performance, leadership, and progress of student athletes with an emphasis on retaining student athletes throughout the year.

* Scout and recruit student athletes who are qualified both academically and athletically for intercollegiate competition.

* Work cooperatively with head coach to maintain and retain records on students, including, but not limited to, athletic eligibility budgets, recruitment, and transportation.

* Serve as role model to assist the team members in developing and displaying appropriate attitudes and behavior expected of athletic teams and individuals representing BBCC.

* Assist head coach in providing post-season evaluation of all players.

* Establish, develop, and maintain positive relationships and effective communication with high school coaches and programs.

* Conduct intercollegiate programs in accordance with NWAC and college rules and regulations.

* Fully participate in athletics activities including departmental meetings, outreach and fundraising events, and other relevant functions as needed and requested.

* Assist in organizing fundraising activities in order to enhance and develop athletic programs.

* Behave in a manner that is consistent with the NWAC codebook, including but not limited to: NWAC coach's code of conduct, coach's standards and procedures, job responsibilities, and Concussion Management. Includes passing NWAC required tests.

* Follow all BBCC guidelines, administrative procedures, and policies surrounding athletics and specific to BBCC Athletic Trainer.

* Promote BBCC athletic programs in our community college district.

* Maintain sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, ability, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Ability to coach students effectively and to evaluate their performance in the assigned activity.

* Strong oral and written communication skills are required.

* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, professional colleagues from other colleges and the public.

* Requires personal attributes necessary to motivate students, guide the development of appropriate behaviors and values, plus must be able to facilitate the development of technical performance skills.

* Must be sensitive to and understand the diverse socioeconomic, academic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

* Ability to work closely with students to achieve their educational goals.

* Knowledge of principles of athletic conditioning, including weight training and athletic training desired.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

At the time of application, all candidates must possess the following:

* Associates degree from a regionally accredited institution OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

* Previous experience as a player or coach in chosen sport (volleyball, wrestling, basketball, baseball, and softball).

* Current First Aid/CPR certification (or will obtain if selected).

* Valid unrestricted Washington State driver's license.

* Experience working within a diverse environment, inclusive of individuals of varying social, ability, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.

* Coaching and/or playing experience at the collegiate level.

* Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with faculty, students and staff within a campus community; and the ability to foster positive resolutions when conflicts occur.

* Teaching and teambuilding, related to student athletes.

* Program fundraising and development.

* Ability to use a personal computer, Microsoft Office products, and database programs.

* Bilingual English/Spanish fluency.

OTHER ASPECTS OF THE POSITION:

* Must be available for recruiting, practices and games during weekday afternoons, evenings and weekends during the school year.

* Must be able to work hours required for coaching, recruiting, classes/practices and competition (including evenings and weekends).

* Must be familiar with the BBCC Student Athlete Code of Conduct.
