Assistant Consortium Director (Academic Program Specialist) - CUNY Fatherhood AcademyPOSITION DETAILSFounded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York/CUNY. LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree and certificate programs, as well as dozens of workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 25,000 students. More than one-third of our degree-seeking students were born outside of the United States, coming to LaGuardia from 136 countries and speaking forty-three heritage languages. More than half are first-generation college students. Sixty-nine percent live in Queens; the rest live in Brooklyn and beyond. Approximately two-thirds of our degree students receive financial aid. Since forty-five percent of them identify as Hispanic, the US Department of Education has designated LaGuardia a Hispanic-Serving Institution. Please visit www.laguardia.edu to learn more.The CUNY Fatherhood Academy (CFA) is a free program designed to promote responsible parenting and foster economic stability for unemployed and underemployed young fathers ages 18-30, through education, employment, and personal development programming and support. The program's central focus is to help young fathers prepare for and enroll in college or training programs, with the understanding that earning a college degree is the most effective path toward providing long-term economic sustainability for themselves and their families. Operating at three CUNY community colleges, the Consortium has served 250 fathers each year in GED and College and Career Prep cohorts. Visit cuny.edu/cfa for more information about the program.Housed within LaGuardia Community College's Adult and Continuing Education (ACE) Division, CFA is seeking a motivated self-starter to lead the next evolution of the CUNY Fatherhood Academy. Building on seven years of program success, the ideal candidate will bring an entrepreneurial spirit to elevate the program within the fatherhood field. Reporting to CUNY Fatherhood Center Director at LaGuardia and collaborating with the University Director at the CUNY Central Office, the Assistant Consortium Director will do the following:
  • Coordinate overall consortium strategic planning and goal attainment, including by providing ongoing program and technical assistance to the partner colleges through regular team meetings and engagement calls;
  • Serve as a thought partner and liaison with NYC-Opportunity and the Young Men's Initiative (CFA funders) on collaborative programming, partnership opportunities, and outcomes reporting across the Consortium;
  • Actively research, engage, and cultivate relationships with other fatherhood programs, community-based organizations, and city agencies to promote CFA and expand referral opportunities;
  • Identify and coordinate professional development opportunities for college partners focused on peer-based learning models and best practices within the fields of fatherhood, parenting, pre-college academic preparation, and youth development;
  • Prepare consortium reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis focused on programmatic outcomes including program enrollment/retention/completion, job placement, educational achievement, and parenting milestones;
  • Oversee consortium database management, data cleaning, and reviewing data quality submitted by partner colleges in collaboration with the University's Data Analytics team;
  • Monitor, evaluate, document, and report on the consortium budgets;
  • Other duties, as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Master's degree in a relevant field area.
    • At least six (6) years of experience developing and managing education, training and/or workforce development programs, pre-college programs, and/or working with young adults or fathers/parents.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, demanding, and complex work environment, with the ability to carry out multiple, complex assignments.
    • Ability to take initiative, exercise sound judgement, and adapt to changing situations and priorities.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
    • A self-learner and exponential thinker; resourceful and comfortable learning by doing.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Access) and collaborative/ teleconferencing technologies (Teams, Zoom, etc.).
    • Database management skills and experience with Word Press or other website editors and social media tools a plus.CUNY TITLE OVERVIEWParticipates in the daily coordination of academic and administrative activities of a College's specialized academic program under management direction.
      • Supports program development, student service delivery, outcome evaluation and instructor/student recruitment, enrollment, and retention.
      • Recommends, implements and evaluates strategies to expand program offerings.
      • Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management.
      • Develops and maintains relationships with various College offices to improve student and faculty services.
      • Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures.
      • Oversees office recordkeeping; manages updates of program web and print materials.
      • May supervise office operations and/or department budget.
