Location: Atlanta, GA (Hybrid: 3 days in-office, 2 days remote)

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant Controller to lead and manage the Accounting and Accounts Payable teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This role is critical to ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, and driving process improvements. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, exceptional technical accounting knowledge, and a proven ability to build and grow high-performing teams.

About the Role:

As the Assistant Controller, you will oversee the Accounting and Accounts Payable departments, providing leadership to a team of 10 (expected to grow to 13). You will play a key role in managing the financial close process, internal controls, and financial statement preparation. This position requires a CPA with extensive experience in public accounting and corporate finance, who is ready to take on a leadership role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and direct accounting activities, including payroll, accounts payable/receivable, fixed assets, prepaids, and accruals.
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closes.
  • Develop and enforce strong internal controls in compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations.
  • Prepare and present monthly financial reporting packages, analyzing variances and identifying trends.
  • Collaborate with the Controller to establish and implement accounting policies.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development for the Accounting and Accounts Payable teams.
  • Partner with leadership to support audit activities and ensure compliance.
  • Drive process improvements to streamline the close cycle and enhance reporting efficiency.
  • Assist with accounting for non-routine transactions and collaborate with technical accounting teams as needed.
  • Lead efforts to optimize accounting systems and technology in collaboration with the financial systems team.
  • Maintain high-quality account reconciliations and review journal entries.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; CPA certification mandatory.
  • 8+ years of combined experience in public accounting and industry, with demonstrated leadership in accounting roles.
  • Proven track record in team management, process improvement, and financial systems optimization.
  • ERP experience (e.g., NetSuite) strongly preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with strong personalities.
