Assistant Coordinator-Teen Zones - City of Raleigh North Carolina : Job Details

The Teen Zone Counselor will assist the Teen Zone Program Coordinator with all aspects of Teen Zone programming.

Responsible for implementing the Teen Zone program for teens ages 12-17. Programming includes an array of athletics/recreational activities. Applicants for this position should be highly motivated and responsible and take strong initiative to engage teens in programs.

Teen Zones are comprised of two components:

1- The Teen Zone area, which has video games, lounge chairs, and areas for reading and listening to music and socializing specifically designed and designated for teen participants.

2-Teen Zone Programs are programs offered to teens who are members of the Teen Zone that include recreational games/activities, classes, special interest clubs, and field trips for which teens must register.

* Implement recreation programming under the guidance of the Teen Zone Program Coordinator

* Assist the Program Coordinator in designing and implementing program plans

* Supervision of Teen Zone participants during Teen Zone activities and classes

* Recognize and respond appropriately in emergencies

* Create a safe and supportive environment where participants can thrive

* Maintain a high-quality, safe, and enriching program

* Ability to work with large and small groups of teenagers

* Skillful in programming for teens in a manner that promotes their development

* Ability to act as a positive role model to teens

* A high level of personal maturity, communication skills, and confidence

* Previous experience working in recreation programs for youth or teens.

* Experience planning recreational/athletic activities, enrichment programming, and games for teenagers

* Experience leading and supervising staff (preferred)

* 21 years of age or older

* High School Graduate

* Prefer applicants working towards a degree in Parks and Recreation, Education, or a related field

* Must be able to lift at least 50lbs

* Must pass City of Raleigh criminal background check and controlled substance test

* Available Monday-Friday 3:00 pm-6:00 pm during the school year
