As the Assistant Dean of Student Advancement, you will lead initiatives that enhance student engagement, retention, and program completion. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Medical Education, you will work closely with academic leadership and student services to ensure students receive the support needed to excel in their medical education journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the Center for Medical Student Success, ensuring policies and procedures related to academic standards, student promotion, retention, and graduation are effectively implemented.
- Develop and implement targeted intervention plans for at-risk students, including progress monitoring, follow-ups, and academic counseling.
- Provide guidance on study skills, learning styles, and available academic resources to support student success.
- Utilize data-driven approaches to assess academic support services, identifying areas for improvement and aligning initiatives with institutional goals.
- Collaborate with faculty, student services, and leadership to address student issues and promote academic excellence.
- Supervise and support the Assistant Dean of Academic and Career Support to enhance early identification and assistance for students facing academic challenges.
- Maintain consistent communication with students, faculty advisors, mentors, and institutional leaders to foster a culture of support and achievement.
Qualifications & Experience
- A DO, MD, or PhD from an accredited institution in a core basic science discipline relevant to COMLEX material (e.g., anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, or biomedical sciences), OR a PhD in Educational Psychology.
- Previous experience in academic student support, preferably in a medical school setting.
- Demonstrated leadership and management expertise with a track record of advancing student academic success.
- Strong background in advising students on coursework, study skills, and academic performance improvement.
- Significant experience in higher education leadership, including student learning assessment and accreditation processes.
