Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our Tumor CytoGenomics Laboratory as an Assistant Director. The successful candidate will play a critical role in overseeing laboratory operations, ensuring high-quality testing, and contributing to the development and implementation of cutting-edge methodologies.

This position requires expertise in chromosome analysis, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and chromosomal microarray (Agilent's aCGH+SNP platform). Experience in next-generation sequencing (NGS) and bioinformatics is strongly preferred. The Assistant Director will also participate in strategic planning and maintain compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Oversight:
    • Supervise and perform cytogenomic analyses, including karyotyping, FISH, and aCGH+SNP testing.
    • Provide technical expertise and troubleshooting for all methodologies in the laboratory and incorporate into new developments in clinical application to provide the most up-to-date comprehensive service.
    • Stay current with advancements in cytogenomic and molecular techniques.
  • Leadership & Management:
    • Assist in the daily operations and workflow management of the laboratory.
    • Mentor and train staff in advanced cytogenetic techniques and best practices and educates laboratory personnel through weekly laboratory meetings.
    • Collaborate with the Director to establish and achieve laboratory goals.
  • Quality Assurance & Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, and NYSDOH regulatory standards.
    • Oversee quality control procedures and participate in internal and external audits.
    • Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and provide Quality Indicators (QI) for the maintenance and improvement of cytogenetics, FISH and array CGH+SNP testing.
    • Provide statistical reports involving the volume of specimens, number of tests, TAT, for purpose of budget planning and growth.
  • Research & Development:
    • Participate in the development and validation of new assays, including NGS-based tests.
    • Collaborate with bioinformatics teams to analyze and interpret complex genomic data.
    • Develop and participate in research projects.
    • Contribute to publications, grants, and presentations to advance the field of cancer cytogenomics.
  • Client and Team Collaboration:
    • Communicate results and findings effectively with physicians, researchers, and other stakeholders.
    • Provide clinical consultation on complex cases and cytogenomic reports.
    • Develop and implements a service of continuing education programs for laboratory trainees, medical students and medical residents.
    • Teach medical students, pathology residents, hematology/oncology fellows, genetic counseling students and other rotating medical personnel.
    • Organize CME-credit seminars.

    Qualifications:

    • Required:
    • PhD or MD/PhD in Genetics, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
    • Board certification or eligibility in Clinical Cytogenetics (e.g., ABMGG or equivalent).
    • Extensive hands-on experience in chromosome analysis, FISH, and chromosomal microarray, specifically Agilent's aCGH+SNP platform.
    • Proven ability to lead and manage a laboratory team.
    • Preferred:
    • Experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) and bioinformatics tools.
    • Knowledge of cancer genomics and its clinical applications.
    • Strong publication record in the field of cytogenomics or molecular diagnostics.
