Job Description:

St. John's University Career Services is seeking a Career and Internship Advisor to support students' career readiness and success. The ideal candidate will showcase their talents by creatively engaging students, delivering high-quality career education, and creating career connections. In addition, this candidate will cultivate productive relationships with faculty and utilize technology, on-demand resources, and marketing analytics to meet students where they are while advancing individual opportunities and pathways to careers. Serving undergraduate and graduate students and alumni, the Advisor will be part of a centralized team of career professionals and support the overall effectiveness of the Career Services Department and the Division of Student Success. St. John's values work/life balance and offers this full-time opportunity with the potential for partial remote work after an initial orientation period.

Responsibilities:

  • Acquire and maintain comprehensive knowledge of assigned academic programs to provide intentional career programming, resources, and advisement.
  • Collaborate closely with college faculty, departments, student groups, and alumni to develop and lead customized career-related programs.
  • Maximize access to career resources for all students across St. John's University's colleges and campuses.
  • Provide individual and group advisement to target populations while exploring avenues for virtual and on-demand engagement.
  • Facilitate advanced-level career development programming for graduate-level students and other targeted groups.
  • Contribute to the selection and/or development of innovative career planning and job search resources.
  • Remain informed of national, state, and local hiring practices and labor-related issues.
  • Assist students in navigating the career decision-making process through activities and programs.
  • Foster a productive, inclusive environment that encourages student enrollment, retention, persistence, and positive outcomes.
  • Support the mission and strategic priorities of the University.
  • Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Minimum of three to five years of experience in career services, human resources, career coaching, corporate recruiting/business development, or related field.
  • Proven success in developing and maintaining internal and external relationships.
  • Excellent resume, interviewing, and job search skills required.
  • Ability to be collaborative, self-directed, and outcome-oriented and to manage multiple projects with shifting priorities.
  • Strong customer service focus and success working independently and in cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated innovative approaches that empower students to navigate the journey from college to career successfully.
  • Essential familiarity with labor market and industry trends.
  • Proficiency in the use of web-based software.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; experience teaching, training, or facilitating workshops.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver effective presentations to groups.
  • Some local travel and evening/weekend work required.
  • Preferred qualifications include:

  • Master's Degree.
  • Familiarity with higher education.
  • Experience with on-campus recruitment.
  • Knowledge of social media as a recruitment and networking tool.
  • Proficiency with Handshake, Virtual Interview Platforms, and AI.
  • Familiarity with faith-based organizations.
  • In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $65,000 - $71,000. St. John's University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

    This position may be relocated to any of St. John's University's physical locations at any time.

    St. John's offers a competitive compensation program which is commensurate with your qualifications, experience, and contingent upon the departmental budget.
