ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF CAREER DEVELOPMENT
VSC UP- PAT - Bargaining Unit, GRADE 13, Exempt
BASIC FUNCTION: Create, adopt, implement, leverage, assess, and improve tools, systems, activities, events, and resources that support the integration of career development practices and applied learning opportunities into Vermont State University student experience and curriculum. Analyze metrics to achieve continuous improvement of programming and services for students, faculty, and external partners. Serve as a primary point of referral from advisors and other student success staff for students who have unique or high-level needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Provide centralized administrative support to academic units that offer credit-bearing undergraduate-level and graduate-level applied learning courses, including a database of applied learning opportunities.
* Manage standardized institutional processes for applied learning courses, such as documenting release forms and learning agreements.
* Utilize and provide training to the university community for Career Development systems and tools to improve access, knowledge, and engagement. (i.e. Handshake, the job and internship platform).
* Collaborate with academic departments to develop clinical and non-clinical affiliation agreements to ensure that an agreement is in place for all credit-bearing and non-credit bearing opportunities.
* Develop new programming and resources for applied learning opportunities, including assisting faculty to incorporate career and civic readiness skills into their curriculum.
* Support the development, launch, and administration of new applied learning opportunities across Vermont State University campuses.
* Serve as a primary point of referral from advisors or other student success staff for students who have unique or high-level career development and applied learning needs.
* Demonstrate inclusivity and provide excellent customer service in all modalities, including in-person, telephone, e-mail, video call, live chat, texting, and the like.
* Leverage and explore various modalities to efficiently and effectively offer educational tools, events, communications, and activities with a goal of expanding access to and engagement with career resources by all members of Vermont State University.
* Promote applied learning opportunities university-wide, including offering career fairs, leading relevant workshops, activities, events, classroom visits, and the like in coordination with the career development team.
* Plan and present/coordinate outreach and educational programs related to career opportunities, job seeking, and job placement.
* Identify, initiate, and maintain contact with alumni in key geographic areas or associated with particular careers.
* Confer regularly with immediate supervisor, Student Success staff, and other University personnel, as well as various external firms/organizations, alumni, and others outside the University to plan, coordinate, and evaluate activities/programs, exchange information, and so forth.
* Compile data and prepare reports related to career development and student success outcomes, programs, and activities.
* Assist in writing proposals for grant/external funding of career and internship opportunities.
* Participate in various professional organizations. Keep abreast of current developments in the field.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Direct supervision received from the Director of Career Development and Innovation.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Direct supervisory responsibility for student workers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline with two to four years relevant experience, or experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
Current, valid driver's license and insurable driving record, as well as a willingness to travel, primarily within the state of Vermont are required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree. Experience working with technology to improve student outcomes in career development.

* Understanding of the psychological and cultural characteristics of economically and educationally disadvantaged students, particularly in a rural setting, as it relates to career readiness.

* Demonstrated positive attitude regarding Vermont State University and a desire to improve student outcomes.
Location: Vermont State University Johnson campus with regular travel to the Williston campus and periodic travel requirements to the other VTSU campuses.
