The Assistant Director of Multicultural Outreach is responsible for conducting regular outreach and engagement activities with prospective students, community members, and industry partners, including supporting college application, financial aid and scholarship application preparedness and completion, advising, and career planning. The Assistant Director will actively engage in outreach and recruitment of prospective students within the college service district with particular focus supporting communities of color, low-income communities, students with disabilities, opportunity youth, and adult re-engagement. This position maintains high quality customer service and coordination through collaborative efforts across the division and the campus and helps support the College's goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion, community engagement, access, and academic excellence. Who you are: Founded in 1934, Lower Columbia College (LCC) is one of 34 community and technical colleges in Washington State. We offer eight (8) career and technical pathways and three (3) Bachelors degree programs. LCC has an active student government, and arts and athletic programs for your enjoyment. The Outreach team is critical in supporting the success of the LCC administration, academic, and student communities.LCC is located in Longview, WA and serves Cowlitz and Wahkiakum Counties. The Outreach team specializes in the recruitment, admission, and onboarding of students to Lower Columbia College. The Outreach team is able to assist prospective students through the application process, FAFSA/WASFA completion, and determining dual credit eligibility. Our team members have multiple years of experience working in the K-12 system, higher education, and in non-profit organizations.The Assistant Director of Multicultural Outreach position is 40 hours per week. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. This position is exempt under FLSA but eligible for overtime and reports to the Director of Outreach Services.   • Demonstrate cultural competence, including awareness and understanding of historically underrepresented populations, and create an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Plan, facilitate, host outreach events for prospective students, families and community members. These events will focus on recruiting prospective students, explaining application and enrollment processes, and educating prospective students on their next steps based on their areas of interest and any dual credit accumulation.
  • Deliver targeted outreach and recruitment activities to historically underrepresented student populations, including communities of color, low-income communities, students with disabilities, opportunity youth, and adult populations, aligned to strategic enrollment goals
  • Establish, engage with and maintain positive relationships with business, industry, and other external partners to participate in a variety of activities that enhance prospective students' understanding of educational and career pathways at the college
  • Co-lead the college's Adult Re-Engagement Strategic Planning subcommittee with a goal of increasing enrollment of adult students who have never enrolled in college or who have some college credits but no credential
  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders to develop and implement comprehensive recruitment and outreach plans which incorporate community-based organizations, agencies, tribal communities, and industry partners
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director and Assistant Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, help lead the implementation of a Multicultural Student Success initiative focused on recruitment, support, and retention of historically underrepresented students
  • Provide campus tours and on-campus visits, plan, lead, and execute engagement events on and off-campus,
  • Maintain accurate files, forms, contact information, and tracking of prospective students using college systems and tools
  • Maintain a cohort of prospective students pursuing LCC, including detailed profiles of individual prospects for the purposes of tracking engagement and creating a personalized recruitment/enrollment plan.
  • Manage a designated group of new students in order to complete welcoming activities and communications, such as text message communication, tracking New Student engagement, and referring students to appropriate LCC resources.
  • Monitor enrollment and achievement indicators to ensure access, retention and completion of diverse student populations; adjusting outreach strategies as needed based on indicators
  • Supervise Outreach Ambassadors, including managing scheduling and outreach activities and supporting the Director in training.
  • Work closely with the One-Stop Center to ensure seamless onboarding for students
  • In collaboration with the Financial Aid department, One-Stop, and Community Organizations, lead efforts for ongoing FAFSA/WASFA education, support, and completion
  • Engage in ongoing retention activities and events for students, specifically focused on historically underrepresented student populations, including but not limited to summer bridge events, quarterly support and social events, check-in outreach communication campaigns, etc.
  • Utilize CRM systems to analyze opportunities to engage prospective and newly onboarding students, including but not limited to: running regular reports identifying points of intervention; reviewing data to evaluate program and event success; etc.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Programs and Student Housing, Assistant Director of DEI and the Associated Students of LCC (ASLCC) to plan diversity, equity and inclusion programming and events
  • Participate in One-Stop Center retention events such as financial aid completion support, scholarship applications, etc
  • Assist student in clarification of educational, career, and life goals, including advising and registration, as assigned
  • Develop a proactive relationship with students and work with them to mitigate or remove barriers that impede academic success and refer students to on and off campus resources and staff as needed
  • Collaborate with Student Services and the greater campus community to develop programs and services to retain under-represented student populations on campus.
  • Provide leadership in working to improve access and successful educational outcomes for diverse student populations, especially underrepresented and underserved groups.
  • Monitor, assess, and regularly report outcomes on outreach events, recruitment and onboarding strategies.
  • Regularly integrate learning from professional development
  • Participate in meetings and committees as requested and assigned
  • The typical schedule is 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday; however some evening and weekend work is required

  • Associate's degree in Education, Communications, Social sciences, Business, Marketing, Counseling, or related field
  • Ability to arrange and prioritize work activities with limited oversight
  • Have 2 years of experience effectively working with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communications skills
  • Sound organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrated proficiency with technology, including word processing, presentation software, and a working knowledge of social media platforms
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Communications, Social sciences, Business, Marketing, Counseling, or related field
  • Bilingual
  • Previous experience in a higher education or K12 setting
  • Experience in student recruitment, admissions or related field
  • Knowledge of student development theories and practices
  • Previous experience with data management systems or Customer Relations Management Systems (CRMs)
