Job Location : Elkins,WV, USA
The Assistant Director (AD) of Upward Bound for the Barbour, Randolph, and Tucker Counties surrounding Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, WV, is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible position funded through a TRIO-Title IV Upward Bound grant.
This project is beginning its third year of a five-year grant, which has been refunded continuously since 1989. Nationally, Upward Bound programs are celebrating 60 years of impact in serving first-generation, income-eligible high school students who become program participants with a mission of helping those students finish high school, enter, enroll, and complete post-secondary education. Under the leadership of the Director, the AD supports the implementation, development, and evaluation of the UB program's year-round curriculum and programming. The AD provides mentoring, instruction, and training regarding academic advisement for students, families, and staff. The AD compiles program information related to grant and participant needs, including secondary education completion, post-secondary educational enrollment, and graduation or completion.
The AD helps plan and participate with students during educational, motivational, social, and recreational events and activities. The UB program occasionally requires an overnight stay. Program components include a once-a-month Saturday Challenge. Challenge Sessions are held September - May, typically 9:30 am-3:30 pm. During the summer, staff need to be available to stay over for up to five days/nights for a week to partake in, supervise, and support the project's learning outside of the classroom curriculum or trip. The AD assists the Director in hiring, managing, and training all academic and summer-employed staff members while collaborating with the D&E UB program serving Pocahontas and Pendleton Counties of WV.
