Job Description:
Nassau Community College invites applications for a full-time Assistant Director position in the Office of the Registrar. The Assistant Director will provide a broad range of support to plan, organize, and manage all activities related to all assigned departments/areas, as aligned to the College's Strategic Plan and Goals, using the highest of ethical standards. The Assistant Director works expeditiously and diligently on behalf of the institution while operating with a data-informed and equity-focused approach to enhance student access and enrollment in collaboration with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
The Assistant Director is responsible to provide administrative, functional, and technical expertise relating to the College's academic and non-academic scheduling functions; assist with scheduling of all academic and non-academic sections/courses/classes, including working collaboratively with Institutional Advancement to ensure adequate scheduling space; analyze data and information to recommend and implement decisions and solve problems; assist with the testing of, and implementation of, approved changes to software utilized by the Office of the Registrar, including but not limited to collaborating with ITS and SUNY staff to coordinate and test software upgrades/patches; assist with all necessary SUNY initiatives; assist with the maintenance of the permanent academic record for all students including, but not limited to, end of term process; assist with ensuring institutional FERPA compliance; assist with the process to determine matriculation, in-state tuition, second-degree approvals and other changes for student records; develop, supervise, and direct staff as assigned.
Participate in professional development activities; maintain current knowledge of laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and pending legislation, relative to areas of responsibility; assist with all reporting, external and internal, necessary for local, state and/or federal compliance in assigned area(s); assist with implementation, assessment and evaluation of policies, processes and procedures related to assigned area; assist in identifying and eliminating redundancies in assigned areas, as well as working collaboratively with other administrators to eliminate redundancies and ensure effective and efficient operation of the College; work collaboratively with all relevant constituencies in the College and the community to support efforts in assigned areas; exhibit fiscal responsibility and accountability in the development and administering of the annual budget for the department; analyze and review budgetary and financial data; control and authorize expenditures in accordance with established resources and limitations, as directed; serve on College committees, as assigned; work effectively with ethnic, cultural, and socially diverse populations; commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree;
* One (1) year of supervisory experience in a professional setting;
* Two (2) years of relevant experience in a post-secondary educational setting involving direct student contact and routine use of student records and record systems;
* Experience with current management system(s) and programs used in higher education and/or the related area(s), including but not limited to Ellucian Banner, PeopleSoft, CourseDog, DegreeWorks, Visio, and Adobe Professional, as well as being proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint), and a strong competency in the College's Administrative Software and Enterprise Resource System of the day, such as Banner; and all other relevant software, including but not limited to Coursedog, Degreeworks, and MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint);
* Familiarity with the mission, goals, and objectives of the College and the demographics of the current student body and staff of the College;
* Knowledge of local community and service area;
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently;
* Knowledge and skill in identifying problems, analyzing data, and making recommendations;
* High level of emotional intelligence and energy;
* Excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills;
* Ability to interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures;
* Ability to develop collaborative relationships with students, faculty, administration, and internal and external constituencies;
* Ability to manage and adapt to change, make difficult decisions, encourage conflict resolution, and assure employee and department accountability; and
* Strong management skills.
Additional Information:
In addition, the successful candidate will preferably have:
* A Master's degree in a related discipline;
* Experience working at a Community College;
* Experience working in a unionized environment; and
* Experience in data analytics.
