Student and Campus Life (SCL) inspires transformation in all Cornell students on their journey of individual, academic and personal evolution. We provide support and services to roughly 25,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on multiple campuses inthe U.S. and abroad.

Sorority & Fraternity Life (SFL) provides support and resources to the 53 recognized sorority and fraternity organizations at Cornell, which is composed of over 3,000 undergraduate students. SFL supports student leaders and their communities as they cultivate an inclusive, meaningful, innovative, and developmental co-curricular sorority and fraternity experience. With a focus on individual and community health & well-being, through advocacy and innovation, we will collaborate with, empower, and support student leaders. Members will engage in developmental co-curricular experiences to create and foster ethical, inclusive, and meaningful communities.

The Assistant Director for Sorority & Fraternity Life (SFL) serves as a member of the SFL team and is the primary Panhellenic advisor. In this role, the Assistant Director advises student leaders in council program planning, community service coordination, member and new member education, and recruitment processes, and acts as a liaison with the Alumnae Panhellenic Association at Cornell (APAC). This position is responsible for advising a portfolio of approximately 15 university-recognized sororities and fraternities across all three governing councils. This role involves coaching student leaders from all three councils through officer transition and training, chapter goal setting, leadership development, risk management education, health and well-being initiatives, and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Assistant Director collaborates with the overall SFL team to develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs and services for the sorority and fraternity community, as well as co-plan and oversee small and large-scale events. Additionally, this position will actively engage across Campus and Community Engagement (CCE) and Student and Campus Life (SCL), by serving on teams, committees and workgroups as needed.

Campus Collaboration -

The Assistant Director builds and sustains collaborative relationships with all constituencies who support Sorority and Fraternity life on campus, including chapter advisors, house directors, alumni, parents, local community members, national headquarters staff, and faculty.

Success Factors -

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to develop and build strong relationships with various stakeholders, including students, alumni, staff, parents, live-in advisors, community members, and campus partners, fostering an atmosphere of inclusion within sorority and fraternity life. They will occasionally represent the Director and Associate Director and must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. This role requires strong organizational, leadership, planning, and execution abilities to further the strategic initiatives of the office, as well as the capacity to effectively manage crisis and emergency situations. The Sorority & Fraternity Community at Cornell consists of over 40 residential facilities varying between university-owned and privately owned. While not directly responsible for facility management, there will be issues relevant to facility management involved.

Required Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in Student Affairs or related field and 2-3 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

* Demonstrated experience in sorority and fraternity advising, program/event planning, leadership development, alcohol education, and/or hazing prevention.

* Ability to engage with stakeholders through discussion, presentation or facilitation.

* Desire to work in a team oriented and collaborative environment and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.

* Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

* Willingness to work irregular and flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

* Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

Preferred Qualifications

* Master's Degree in Student Affairs or a related field.

* Affiliation with a sorority or fraternity.

* Experience working with key stakeholders such as headquarter staff and alumni advisors, as well as other university departments supporting the work of sororities and fraternities.

* An in-depth knowledge of current trends and best practices in higher education regarding sororities and fraternities.

* Experience advising a Panhellenic Council
