Summary
The Assistant Driller operates and repairs drilling equipment and provides guidance to work crews. They provide guidance and training for work crew personnel regarding rigging up and rigging down, day-to-day operations and company policies and procedures. The Assistant Driller will assist the Driller in leading operations to ensure compliance with safety guidelines and established procedures by his assigned rig crew.
Essential Duties
* Provide guidance and training for work crew personnel regarding rigging up and rigging down, day-to-day operations and company policies and procedures.
* Utilize various computer programs to prepare and submit drilling operation reports.
* Assistant Driller will be responsible for maintaining the desired mud weight & properties and transfers of all drilling fluid.
* Will be accountable for the assisting the Driller in supervising the rig crew.
* Communicate and assist the Rig Manager and Driller in improving HSE, production and controlling daily costs based on the operational budget goal.
* Will recognize and eliminate safety and environmental issues and provide leadership that reinforces the SWN culture.
* Has the obligation to utilize stop work authority any time he/she deems necessary.
* High school diploma, GED, or the equivalent is required
* Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
* Ability to follow oral or written instructions to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision
* Ability to interact with others in a team environment
* Minimum training requirements: Health, Safety and Environment Orientation and Rig Specific Start Up Training, and Horizontal and Extended Reach Drilling (HERDIT)
* Three (3) to five (5) years prior experience in procedures associated with drilling a well.
* Will be required to pass all pre-employment requirements including a physical demands and drug-screening test along with a thorough background and motor vehicle record check
* Basic/Intermediate computer skills, including the ability to
* Operate a computer, Omron Human Machine Interface (HMI) and Pason systems
* Effective communication skills, including the ability to
* Exchange accurate information relating to technical and safety performance with vendors, engineering, employees, etc.
* Read, learn, and educate on safety and technical manuals
* The work of this position requires:
* Manual dexterity to operate drilling tools.
* Frequent movement of up to 100 lbs. to lift, push, pull or carry equipment and to control brake handle.Reaching, climbing and balancing is required to climb flights of stairs, vertical ladders up to 140 feet high and reach and handle equipment.Vision and depth perception to supervise and monitor equipment and conditions on rig.
