Metropolis Magazine is a leading publication in the design industry, covering architecture, interior design, sustainability, and urbanism. Known for our insightful analysis and innovative storytelling, we are seeking an Assistant Editor/Programs Coordinator to support our editorial team in the production of both print and digital content, while also managing key program initiatives. The Assistant Editor/Programs Coordinator will play a key role in both editorial content creation and program coordination. Working closely with the Senior editorial staff, the candidate will assist in the production of the magazine, from researching and writing to editing and fact-checking for both digital and print platforms. The role also requires support for Metropolis Magazine's special programs and partnerships, ensuring the smooth execution of events, awards, and other initiatives.

This dual-role position requires strong written and verbal communication skills, a proactive approach to managing tasks, and a keen eye for detail. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, capable of managing multiple projects under tight deadlines, and comfortable interfacing with clients, partners, and contributors. The role will be especially rewarding for candidates with a passion for architecture and interior design.

Key Responsibilities:

Editorial:

  • Assist in the creation and production of Metropolis Magazine's print content, including researching stories, editing, and writing.
  • Assist in the creation and production of digital content, including newsletters, online articles, and social media platform posts.
  • Collaborate with senior editorial staff on researching design and architecture projects, requesting photography, and managing submissions for upcoming stories.
  • Support the team during the editorial process, including issue closings, where tasks may include copy-editing and preparing materials for publication.
  • Conduct interviews and draft articles for publication, ensuring consistency with Metropolis's editorial standards.

Program Coordination:

  • Coordinate Metropolis Magazine's special programs, including awards, industry events, and partnerships.
  • Coordinate the logistical and operational components of NYC events,
  • Travel to select out-of-town events as required by the Programs and Partnerships team
  • Manage communication with program participants, ensuring their needs are met and schedules are adhered to.
  • Oversee the execution of key elements of special projects, including event logistics, RSVP management, and partner coordination.
  • Track program timelines, ensuring key deadlines and milestones are met.
  • Collaborate with the Programs and Partnerships team to ensure successful promotion and execution of programs.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proactive Mindset: Able to take initiative and independently manage projects with minimal supervision.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to draft articles, emails, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders professionally.
  • Organization: Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong editing skills with acute attention to detail, particularly when fact-checking and proofreading content.
  • Customer Service Orientation: Comfortable working with clients, program participants, and partners, ensuring their needs are met with a high level of service.
  • Technical Proficiency: Experience using Microsoft Office. Familiarity with Adobe InCopy, Adobe Photoshop, HubSpot, and WordPress is a plus. Social media and SEO knowledge also a plus.
  • Time Management: Excellent time management skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year university, preferably in journalism, architecture, design, public relations, art history, or related fields.
  • At least 1-3 years of post-college work experience in an editorial or program coordination role.
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
