Job Location : Aspen,CO, USA
Are you focused yet curious enough to recognize the difference between a rabbit hole and an enterprise story thread?
Do you love spitballing story ideas, follow-up interview possibilities, and more with others in the newsroom?
Are you a reporter who enjoys providing collaborative feedback as much as you enjoy writing?
Can you recognize what makes a good photo — and the ability for strong visuals to draw in readers?
If you answered yes — or even “I think so” — we'd like to meet you.
The Aspen Times seeks a senior reporter/assistant editor to help lead the newsroom.
The position will typically have you spend about half your time reporting and half editing and helping to guide the newsroom. Your reporting will focus primarily on general assignment, business, and more. For editing, you'll lead on designated production days, working with reporters, copy editors, and designers to create online content and help get our print edition to press. Balancing that with reporting is no easy task, but it's a great opportunity for a seasoned reporter to step up to an editor role. Ideally, you'd bring at least three years of prior daily reporting experience for a firm foundation from which to grow into the role.
Outside of the job, you'll have the chance to live in what we truly believe is one of the most beautiful parts of the country with mountains, cycling, hiking, world-class skiing, whitewater rafting, gold medal fishing and more.
The kicker? Our office is two blocks away from the Aspen Mountain Silver Queen Gondola.
Salary $55,000-$60,000 DOE
Benefits include up to a $500 annual recreation reimbursement, medical, dental and vision plans, vacation and sick leave, 401K match, and more. To apply, send your resume, 3-5 clips or links to published stories, along with a 200-400-word cover letter, explaining why you're the best candidate for the job to Publisher Allison Pattillo [email protected]
