Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesNOTE: Employee may be required to respond to a disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Statesville. Service to the citizens during a disaster may result in the assignment of other duties, which will take precedence over duties described in this job description. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employees may perform other related duties as needed to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Schedules and supervises the operations of the Fitness and Activity Center providing a variety of recreation programs.
  • Supervises the After School Enhancement Program and Summer Camp program and staff.
  • Coordinates other city-wide programs, trips, classes, etc.
  • Assists supervisors in developing diversified programs to meet community needs.
  • Schedules and supervises use of the facility; enforces rules and regulations and maintains order and discipline.
  • Conducts public relations for the Fitness and Activity Center, publicizes events and special activities, and maintains contact with various community groups and organizations.
  • Assists supervisors in marketing, membership recruitment, and retention.
  • Assists supervisors with special events, programs, and the Special Olympics.
  • Registers participants in programs, maintains registration and membership files, as well as attendance reports.
  • Prepares facilities for activities and programs.
  • Drives activity van for field trips and recreation programs.
  • Supervises and assists in maintaining the cleanliness and order of the facilities and equipment.
  • Helps recruit, hire, and supervise instructors, volunteers, and part time staff.
  • Collects and accounts for daily fees of facility usage.
  • Interacts with current and/or prospective members by giving tours, explaining policies and procedures, and demonstrating the use of equipment.
  • Attends staff meetings and other training sessions as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum RequirementsMinimum Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in parks, recreation, and tourism or a related field.
  • Six (6) months experience in organized recreational programs.
Other Requirements
  • Possession of a valid driver's license
  • If you have a valid out-of-state license, NC law states that you must obtain a NC driver's license within 60 days of establishing a permanent residence in North Carolina.
  • Possession of a valid First Aid and CPR certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date.

Job Related Physical Activity RequirementsThis position involves medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
