Overview
il Buco Restaurant Group is seeking an experienced and dynamic Assistant General Manager for il Buco al Mare, our year-round restaurant in the Hamptons. In this role, you will oversee daily operations and ensure a high standard of service while managing and empowering our staff. Your primary goal will be to maintain a positive dining experience for our guests.
The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a passion for the food service industry. You will work closely with the General Manager to support the restaurant's daily operations and actively embody, inspire, and teach skills that elevate the guest experience, enhance team performance, and support the growth of il Buco al Mare.
Please note that proven experience in managing high-end, fast-paced restaurants is required.
The duties include
- Maintain proper flow of service while upholding the highest level of service standards, product quality, and cleanliness
- Lead by example in properly executing all service standards and protocols
- Perform administrative tasks including but not limited to financial reports, scheduling, payroll processing, facilities maintenance, and Health Department checks
- Conduct daily and on-going comprehensive education for FOH team members
- Assist in the recruitment, training, and retention of all FOH staff
- Ensure all team members are trained and follow all safety and DOH sanitation policies and procedures
- Update all printed and digital menu materials including POS system, based on product availability
- Assist in executing new restaurant initiatives and service protocols through staff training
- Interact with guests in the dining room to ensure service and food quality, handle guest issues or complaints and any special requests
- Recognize repeat & VIP guests, ensuring best experience and further development of regular clientele
- Act as liaison with Events manager for event execution, being the point of contact with guests on arrival
- Drive and support the continual development of FOH team members by upholding performance expectations, providing ongoing feedback, and offering input for regular performance reviews
- Execute FOH team training as determined by GM and Director of Operations
- Daily Shift Management, including including opening and closing procedures – ensure all staff arrive on time, menus are ready, cash procedures are done, restaurant is set and all staff are in uniform for the start of their shift – Floor presence during service is required
- Assist in managing customer service responses and leading all guest recovery efforts including but not limited to online feedback, guest complaints, and immediate service recovery
- Disciplinary management of FOH service staff including coaching and counseling procedures, write ups, and coaching in the moment
- Work in tandem with the BOH Mgmt team to ensure the overall morale of the restaurant and a unified management team
Required Qualifications
- Minimum Five years of restaurant management experience in a high volume, upscale to fine dining restaurant
- Valid Food Handler's Certification
- Proficient in a variety of technology systems, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Google Suite, Payroll, POS, Reservations, and Inventory Mgmt Systems
- Proficient in all aspects of fine dining service
- Knowledge of food and beverage
- Effective style of management, promoting a positive and enthusiastic team atmosphere
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and resolve guest conflict
- Willing to accept guidance in a positive manner and implement the direction in a way that is productive for both you and the team
- Ability to demonstrate quick thinking and adaptability in a constantly changing environment
- Must have flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays
Physical Demands & Essential Functions
- The physical demands for this position are seeing, hearing, speaking, reaching, frequently lifting up to 25 pounds, occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds, sitting or standing for 4 to 8 hours, bending, and moving intermittently during working hours. These physical requirements may be accomplished with or without reasonable accommodation.
