Description Department: Client Services Job Type: Regular Full Time Education Level: BA/BS or combination of education and experience Required Years Experience: 6 Church Pension Group (CPG) is a financial services organization located in Midtown Manhattan. CPG was founded in 1917 to provide pension benefits to eligible clergy of the Episcopal Church. Since then, its mission has expanded to include life and disability insurance, health benefits, property & casualty insurance, and publishing. The Assistant Manager of the Life Events Team oversees the daily operations of death, disability, and retirement. This individual is responsible for interfacing with all clients, clergy, lay people, Diocesan Administrators, and Parish Treasurers. They will provide strategic thought leadership, coaching, mentoring, and managing the team. They will ensure team compliance with benefit plans, policies, and regulations and lead client education efforts. Additionally, the individual handles benefit education related to client life events, focusing on retirement and claims to drive a culture of high-quality customer experience. The Assistant Manager will demonstrate a commitment to excellence through continuous people development and look for opportunities in our programs to enhance employee engagement, client service delivery, knowledge, skills, and culture. They will collaborate with business leaders to identify and implement departmental strategies. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following with other duties possibly assigned.
  • Accountable for oversight of day-to-day management to the team in support of guidance, coaching, evaluating, and providing necessary development. Effective performance of the essential functions of this position requires periodic (at least weekly) interaction with colleagues, both for relationship building and meaningful collaboration.

  • Manage the day-to-day relationship with benefit vendors, consultants, and other external partners to meet service expectations, handle escalations, and take ownership of complaints and grievances, identifying trends.
  • Ensure that Client Services skill needs are identified and analyzed, the training needs are identified, and that training plans that meet these needs are developed and delivered. Assume responsibility for equipping staff to provide effective, knowledgeable client service.

  • Familiar with establishing quantitative and qualitative success metrics.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent preferred, or a combination of education and experience will be considered. Must have prior people and/or team management experience.
  • 6+ yrs. Overall professional experience, with 3+ yrs. in people management, focusing on client facing success in a fast-paced corporate environment.
  • Experience with, or a combination of, pension plan and health and welfare plan administration and compliance is highly desirable.
