JOB OVERVIEW:

Under the supervision of the Corporate Safety Manager, the Corporate Safety Assistant Manager, is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and management of GPA's safety standards, policies, programs and culture. Promotes a safe work environment by participating in safety initiatives and reporting unsafe conditions and behaviors.

JOB DUTIES:
* Produce content for safety communications to include weekly messaging, video messaging, pre-shift safety talks, and other content as directed.
* Conduct compliance audits on all operations and maintenance functions to ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures, as well as Environmental Health and Safety organizations including the United States Coast Guard, Port Safety, and Department of Transportation.
* Assist in centrally tracking all identified hazards and audit deficiencies with proposed control measures until each task is implemented and completed.
* Assist in centrally tracking behavioral-based safety observations and identifying behavioral trends with proposed control measures.
* Assist in investigations of accidents to determine causation and develop preventative measures. Lead Risk Assessment, Root Cause, and Near-Miss investigations and direct corrective actions.
* Assist in coordinating post-mishap recertification training and maintain the GPA incident summary and retraining log.
* Assist in safety training and orientation for management and employees as required.
* Assist in mentoring and guiding GPA's departmental safety management representatives.
* Actively participate in industry-related safety committees to cultivate safety improvement in Georgia's deep-water facilities.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of the marine terminal operations and freight transportation safety regulatory bodies.Must have the ability to develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive tactical and strategic safety program.Ability to supervise and coordinate projects required.Ability to work independently and prepare staff-level recommendations and/or presentations required.Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively and professionally with the GPA staff on all levels as well as customers and the public required.Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to exercise positive leadership with people required.Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint desired.
Experience
3+ years of related work experience Preferred Prior management experience Preferred
Education
Preferred Four-year college degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety, or related field
Licenses & Certifications
TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential RequiredDriver's License - Valid state driver's license Required
