Job Title: Assistant Principal, ElementaryWage/Hour Status: ExemptReports to: Principal Pay Grade: AP 3Dept./School: Campus assignedDate Revised: 2018Primary Purpose:Assist the school principal in the overall administration of the instructional program and operations at the campus level. Coordinate assigned student activities and services.Qualifications:Education/Certification:Master's degree in educational administrationValid Texas teaching certificateTexas mid-management or other appropriate Texas certificateCertified instructional appraiser in T-TESSSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Thorough understanding of school administrative operationsStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsExperience:Three to five years teachingMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Instructional Management
Participates in the development and evaluation of educational programs.Encourages and supports the development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers to pilot such efforts when appropriate.Facilitates the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.School or Department MoralePromotes a positive, caring climate for learning.Deals sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.Employs effective interpersonal skills.School or Department ImprovementParticipates in collaborative processes to develop campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.Assists principal in developing, maintaining, and using appropriate information systems and records necessary for attainment of campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.Actively supports the efforts of others to achieve district goals and objectives and campus performance objectives (academic excellence indicators).Personnel ManagementObserves employee performance, records observations, and conducts evaluation conferences with staff; serves as a second appraiser in the Professional Development and Appraisal System.Assists principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.Provides effective staff development and training activities by using the mission of the district, program evaluation outcomes, and input from employees and others.Management of Administrative, Fiscal and Facilities FunctionsSupervises operations in the absence of the regular principal.Assists in the administration of the daily organization of the school including class scheduling, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activities.Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with the attendance supervisor on investigative follow-up actions.Requisitions supplies, textbooks, and equipment; conducts inventories; maintains records; and verifies receipts for such material.Cooperates in the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.Coordinates transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services.Attends all regular special meetings of the Board of Education and executive or study sessions when requested by the Superintendent.Student ManagementCoordinates and provides adequate supervision of students during non-instructional periods.Provides input to develop a student management system that results in positive student behavior.Ensures that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.Conducts conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning school and student issues.Coordinates and provides adequate supervision of student health services.Ensures that student discipline management, student attendance/truancy, and in-school-suspension/AEP programs are appropriate and equitable for all students.School or Community RelationsArticulates the school's mission to the community and solicits its support in realizing the mission.Demonstrates awareness of school/community needs and initiates activities to meet those identified needs.Uses appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.Professional Growth and DevelopmentDevelops professional skills appropriate to job assignment.Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.Monitors professional research and disseminates ideas and information to other professionals.Adheres to professional ethical standards in relationships with students, teachers, parents, patrons, peers, and support staff.Academic Excellence and Campus Performance ObjectivesWorks cooperatively with others in developing and attaining Campus Performance Objectives.MiscellaneousExhibits punctuality and dependability in carrying out assignments.Exhibits flexibility in the performance of assigned duties.Exhibits a friendly and pleasant personality.Dresses and grooms appropriately.Displays a sense of humor.Performs other tasks and functions as assigned by the principal.Supervisory Responsibilities:NoneWorking Conditions:Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); coordinate campus support functions; maintain emotional control under stress.The foregoing statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties that may be assigned or skills that may be required.
