Job Description :
The Assistant Principal is responsible for aiding with the day-to-day operations of the individual school as well as ensuring appropriate long-term planning for each school year. The position is responsible for the supervision of all staff and students. This role promotes high academic, behavioral,and therapeutic standards; and serves as a resource for information to students, their families, staff, and community agencies. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists with supervising staff and daily operations to assure adherence to all established school policies and procedures.
  • Assures proper maintenance of educational and counseling documentation/records.
  • Supports in scheduling of staff and activities consistent with all Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Assists in overseeing treatment planning for all students.
  • Assists in preparation of campus budget.
  • Collaborates in the proper assessment of students and their appropriate placement in classes based upon needs.
  • Provides written curriculum guides and support materials to serve as a basis for implementing the curriculum.
  • Assists in providing adequate materials, supplies and equipment are available to effectively perform daily operations.
  • Report's student status and progress to special education directors, appropriate agencies, parents, and other appropriate sources.
  • Assists with all transportation to include scheduling, safety, and vehicle maintenance.
  • Aids in maintaining compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Assists with collaboration and coordination with other agencies to improve/increase services.
  • Collects data, monitors and continuously improves quality of service outcome indicators.
  • Assists with scheduling staff development activities for staff.
  • Assists with purchasing school materials, supplies, and equipment which support the mission of the school.
  • Responds to and manages behavioral crisis situations.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with students and stakeholders that are positive and professional.
  • Collects quality indicator data.
  • Responsible for public health, safety, and sanitation of the school
  • Liaisons with Human Resources on complex issues such as Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Worker's Compensation, recruitment, disciplinary actions, employee engagement, etc.
SECONDARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform all job responsibilities in a safe manner and adhere to safety practices and standards established by the company.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Ability to foster a positive school climate and culture.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skill.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in special education and/or school administration and supervision endorsement.
  • A minimum of three years working with students with disabilities.
  • One-year administrative experience within a special education program. (Preferred)
  • Hold or eligible for a valid renewable VDOE postgraduate professional teaching license issued by the board with an endorsement in school administration and supervision or special education.
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License
  • Mandt certification
