Black Hills State University is a teaching focused University located in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. Tenure track faculty positions have defined responsibilities in teaching, scholarship/research and service (University, professional, and community). The College of Business is accredited by AACSB International and offers undergraduate business programs in Professional Accountancy (150 credit hours), and Business Administration (120 credit hours) with the following specializations: accounting, economics, entrepreneurial studies, health services administration, human resource management, management and marketing. The College of Business also offers an MBA in applied management. DUTIES:
  • Teach accounting courses at the undergraduate and MBA levels.
  • The teaching load for this position is four courses/semester with summer teaching possibilities. Engage in appropriate research/scholarly activities.
  • Participate in student advising, recruitment and retention activities.
  • Participate in service activities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • PhD or DBA in accounting.
  • ABD will be considered if degree completion will occur no later than July 1, 2026. If the candidate is ABD, the initial contract will be a term contract at the Instructor level, $4,000 lower than the terminal degree compensation. A salary increase will be granted for the contract year following degree completion and assistant professor rank. Upon request, one year prior service may be applied toward promotion and tenure, within BHSU and BOR approval.
  • Willingness to teach face-to-face, online and at our extension campus in Rapid City.
  • Experience teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
  • Work experience with tax preparation.
  • Ability to teach undergraduate accounting including tax courses.
  • Ability to coordinate and supervise BHSU's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) tax preparation clinic.
  • Academic accounting research interests with potential to publish in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Strong collegial and collaborative skills.
  • Enthusiasm for working with diverse student, staff, and faculty.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for engagement, service, and the public good.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • PhD or DBA from an AACSB-International accredited business school.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license holder.
  • Professional work experience in accounting including tax preparation or auditing.
  • Past publication record.
