Salary: Depends on QualificationsLocation : Main Campus - Portales, NMJob Type: Full time permanentJob Number: 2024-00244Department: Academic AffairsDivision: College of Liberal Arts and SciencesOpening Date: 12/17/2024Position Overview Position Summary:Eastern New Mexico University's (ENMU) Chemistry program invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry, starting August, 2025. ENMU seeks candidates with expertise in environmental chemistry and a desire to engage in cross disciplinary research. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and the ability to establish a research program that engages students in applied and/or basic research. The Chemistry program is housed in the Department of Physical Sciences which offers bachelor's degrees in Biochemistry, Chemistry and Environmental Science and a Master's degree in Chemistry. The program has up-to-date classroom and research space in the Science Building and the recently renovated ($23 million) Roosevelt Science Center, as well as, major instrumentation (e.g., NMR, LC-MS, HPLC, GC-MS, XRF, XRD, and various spectrometers including fluorescence, IR, and UV-vis) to support teaching and research. This position is a residential appointment and campus presence is required. Review of applications will begin mid-February and continue until the position is filled. Requirements Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses and labs in Chemistry and Environmental Science as assigned by the department chair.

• Establish an active research program in environmental chemistry or closely related field which provides training and research experiences for undergraduate and graduate students.
• Seek and obtain extramural funding to support research efforts.
• Support undergraduate and graduate research through directing and mentoring student research projects including participation in and chairing of thesis committees.
• Collaborate in teaching and research efforts with faculty and students in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, and/or Forensic Science.
• Maintain appropriate service to the department, college, and university, including service on departmental, college and university committees, assisting with department recruitment and retention efforts, and advising undergraduate students.

Minimum Job Requirements:

• Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental chemistry, or a related field. ABDs will be considered.
• Expertise in environmental chemistry or closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• University-level teaching experience.
• Demonstrated experience with grant writing and funding.
• Experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate student research

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

• Work is sedentary in nature with 25 pounds of maximum weight to lift and carry
