The Counseling and Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY) Department provides a continuum of essential services to the most vulnerable youth in our community, including two crisis nurseries, an emergency shelter, permanent and transitional housing, a food and clothing pantry, street outreach, and support for minor victims of commercial sexual exploitation. Our crisis nursery program is the only one in New York state that offers free, low-barrier, immediate access that does not require a referral from any other entity. The purpose of this program is to provide childcare in a calm, safe environment to reduce the trauma on the children of families experiencing a crisis, including (but not limited to): medical emergencies, unexpected illness, accidents, unemployment, mental health episodes, unexpected death, domestic violence, homelessness, legal issues, unstable/unsafe housing. Our two locations in Rochester, one in the southwest quadrant (CNGR) and one in the northeast quadrant (Owen's House), are open 24/7 year-round. The Assistant Manager is responsible for the operation and programming to provide a caring living environment for the children and families being served. The Assistant Manager's duties are a combination of direct service and monitoring of clients, supervision of staff, volunteers and interns, and a variety of administrative responsibilities. Furthermore, the Assistant Manager is responsible for scheduling, training, mentoring, and coaching full-time, part-time, and relief Childcare staff, volunteers, and interns in their roles and duties. This is a full-time (35 hour per week), twelve (12) month position. The Assistant Program Manager also participates in the On-Call RHY Supervisor rotation (for 1 week, every 5-6 weeks). This emergency response system is intended to provide after-hours and weekend support to the Runaway and Homeless Youth programs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:Supervision of staff and volunteers:

  • Initial selection, orientation, and training of assigned personnel
  • Ongoing, orientation and training
Administrative:
  • Schedule and coordinate staff and volunteer shift assignments
  • Regular On-call rotation responsibilities
  • Coordination of program donations including clothing, and/or gifts in kind, and/or holiday programs
  • Review client files, weekly summaries and discharge summaries
Supervision and Operations:
  • Supervision of children within the daily routine
  • Crisis prevention, resolution, and intervention
  • Coordination and facilitation of family referrals and aftercare
  • After hours intake, assessment, information, and referral
  • Case consultation and teaming with Childcare and other RHY staff
  • Assist in development and supervision of social and recreational activities for residents
  • Participation in Staff Meetings, training, individual and group supervision
  • Assist with maintenance of Owen's House facility and grounds
  • Operations duties as assigned, ie. shopping, inventory, etc.
  • Maintaining client confidentiality consistent with agency policy
  • Maintain a caring and cooperative environment
  • Transportation of clients when assigned
  • Other duties as assigned by Assistant Director of Counseling & RHY Services
  • QUALIFICATIONS A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in human services, education, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education, employment, and life experience will also be considered. (5) five years' applicable experience, including (3) three years of supervisory/program management experience is preferred. In addition to the above, it is mandatory that candidates meet the following criteria prior to hire:
    • Proof of a satisfactory physical exam within the last 12 months including a PPD and annually thereafter.
    • A valid driver's license, regular access to a motor vehicle and automobile insurance at the level of $100,000 per person/$300,000 per accident Bodily Injury and $50,000 Property Damage
