Position Type: Central Office Administration/Assistant SuperintendentDate Posted: 10/22/2024Location: Waterford School DistrictDistrict: Waterford School District - websitePOSITION: Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations LOCATION: Kurzman Administration Services, Crary Campus JOB DESCRIPTION The Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations is a cabinet-level position directly responsible to the Superintendent for the overall financial operations of the District, including the development and maintenance of the annual budget, long-range financial projections, and the management of capital projects. Responsibilities include supervising the business office, new construction and renovations, custodial, maintenance, facilities, transportation, food service, child care, and auxiliary functions. The Assistant Superintendent has a central role in managing the business affairs and financial resources of the District in such a manner that maximizes the educational benefits derived from the prudent expenditure of the District Funds. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Required Bachelor Degree in Business Administration (Accounting/Finance). Preferred Master's Degree in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting, or Certified Public Accountant.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful administrative and leadership experience, preferably in the area of school business, with knowledge and understanding of school finance and laws.
  • Eligible for state administrator certification as a Chief School Business Official.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Function as the District's Chief Finance and Operational Officer, overseeing all financial affairs to include the budget, property management, audits, and long-term sustainability planning.
  • Serve as an advisor to the Superintendent for all questions related to the business and operations of the district.
  • Prepare and communicate comprehensive, timely presentations and reports, and effectively present information to the Board of Education, administrators, and all stakeholders.
  • Implement and maintain effective and transparent internal controls safeguarding District assets and resources.
  • Engage with legislative, school, and state organizations, staying informed about school finance reform and other issues relevant to the district.
  • Work collectively with the Human Resources department on staffing, bargaining, pupil enrollment projections, payroll, benefits and other matters relating to collective bargaining agreements.
  • Responsible for the preparation and reporting of federal funds, special education center programs, and adjudicated youth programs.
  • Develop and oversee the capital improvement plan for all school facilities and all building bond construction projects.
  • Carry out such other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or results from this position in the community.
