Description
The Assistant Coach, under the direction of the Head Coach, assists in teaching and implementing
game strategies, skill development, teamwork, student leadership, and overall improvement.
Responsible for promoting intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of the university, while
fostering a positive team culture and ensuring the success of the program/s.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coaching: Assist the head coach in planning and directing the education of student-athletes
in the techniques, skills, and theory of the sport, including, but not limited to, unit specific
responsibilities. Provide specific skill instruction to student-athletes during training as
directed.
Operations: Assist in the daily functions of the program/s and their many facets and tasks
in the office and University environment, as well as required work outside of the office,
including Game Day preparations and tournament coordination when required.
Physical Development: Support the conditioning and training of athletic team members in
conjunction with the strength and conditioning program and off-season training program.
Academics: Assist in monitoring student-athlete academic progress through study tables
and other methods of academic monitoring.
Outreach: Assist in marketing, social media promotion (twitter/Facebook), community
service, and awareness and promotion of team/s and Lourdes University events.
Fundraising: Assist in team/s fundraising initiatives and participate in all Lourdes University
fundraising initiatives upon request, serving as an Ambassador for Lourdes University.
Team travel: Assist in coordinating all team/s travel and meals.
Camp/clinic administration: Organize, coordinate, schedule, promote, and conduct
camps and clinics.
Scouting of opponents: Assist in scouting of opponents as directed by Head Coach.
Recruiting: Assist in the on- and off-campus recruitment of quality student-athletes to raise
program/s performance, specifically aid in the management of recruiting information,
coordination of visits, execution of verbal commitments, and maintenance of prospect
database.
Compliance: Acquire a full understanding of the NAIA and the WHAC rules and regulations
applicable to the sport and ensure compliance by student-athletes and all program staff.
Ensure compliance with the University's mission and values, and all regulations and
requirements.
Equipment: Assist in purchase of training and game gear, as well as all upkeep and
maintenance
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
* Excellent organizational, communication and leadership skills, whether dealing with
* individuals or groups and an ability to work well with different constituents.
* Ability to effectively analyze and teach the fundamental skills and strategies of the sport.
* Ability to successfully motivate all associated with the team.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Positive attitude towards the University and its intercollegiate programs is essential.
* Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
* Computer Skills - This position is expected to have computer literacy.
Requirements
* Bachelor's degree required
* Minimum of three years coaching experience required, college level coaching preferred
