POSITION SUMMARY: Coach in various secondary interscholastic athletic programs.QUALIFICATIONS:1. Any combination equivalent to a high school diploma and a minimum of 64 college semester hours from an accredited college or university.2. Meet guidelines of Kentucky High School Athletic Association.REPORTS TO: Head CoachPERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Has the responsibility for the sport and team that he coaches. Established the particular training procedures and methods and systems to be used in the coaching of the senior high and middle school teams.Never discourages a student from participation in any other sport. Designs his particular sport in the interest of a well-rounded total school athletic program.A cooperative attitude among all coaches is essential to the attainment of this goal.Instructs athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline and self-confidence.Has a thorough knowledge of all athletic policies and of the rules and regulations of the National and Kentucky High School Athletic Associations and shall be responsible for their implementations by the entire staff of his program.Establishes the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught by staff including middle school staff.Arranges conferences, clinics, and staff meetings to insure staff awareness of overall program. Maintains discipline, adjust grievances, and work to increase morale and cooperation of his/her staff members and of the total athletic staff.Assists the athletic director in scheduling, providing transportation, arranging for lodging and meals for required events. Assists the athletic director in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled events or practices and adhere to scheduled facility times.Provides the athletic director all documentation to fulfill local, state, and national requirements with regards to physical examinations insurance forms, records, eligibility forms, etc.Arranges for issuing, storing, and reconditioning of equipment. Helps provide training rules and any other unique regulation of the sport to each athlete who is considered a participant. Attends as many practice sessions and games involving the other teams within his/her sport below the varsity level as possible. Must show an interest in feeder program. Initiates programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies. Directs student managers and statisticians.Helps athletes in their college or advanced educational selection.Participates with the athletic director in the formulation of budget needs.Monitors equipment rooms and coaches office, authorize who may enter, issue or requisition equipment.Permits the athletes to only be in authorized areas of the building at the appropriate time.Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on general cleanliness of the facility.Assumes responsibility for general cleanliness of the locker rooms in season and for the cleanliness and maintenance of specific sport equipment at all tines.Secures all doors, lights, and windows and locks before leaving building if custodians are not on duty.Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use.Promotes the sport within the school through recruiting athletes that are not in another sports program, and promote sports outside the school through news media, little league programs, or in any other feasible manner.Works with the athletic director on special promotional activities. Maintains a good public relation with news media, booster clubs, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.Keeps the athletic director informed of any serious injuries to his athletes.Maintains and is responsible for team records, individual sports, letterman, and award winners and provide same information to the athletic director and news media.Keeps abreast of new developments in his/her sport by attending as many clinics and state playoffs as is possible.Works with the principal, athletic director, and cheerleaders on sport's assemblies and pep rallies.Arrives early enough before practice, contests, and meetings in order to adequately prepare and remains long enough afterwards to help players with problems or become involved in staff discussions.Performs other such duties as the principal, athletic director, and/or superintendent of schools may direct.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Employment will be on an as needed basis as determined by the superintendent with salary determined by the adopted co-curricular salary schedule of the Paducah Public Schools Board of Education.EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
