The position will focus on small farm crop production (horticulture and agronomy), as well as supporting growers with aspects of marketing and the grant-funding process. Collaboration with growers, educational institutions, governmental, and community organizations to develop a program that introduces new technologies and appropriate varieties for crop production with the focus of providing fresh local produce and value-added products to direct markets, CSAs, restaurants, and other outlets. Targeted educational programs may include beginning farmer workshops, on-farm food safety training, innovative irrigation practices, soil management, weed management, and season extension. Position is housed at the Camp Verde, AZ Extension Office. Area appointment includes Coconino County, AZ.The selected candidate will be expected to maintain professional competence and high ethical standards, participate in professional activities/meetings, and regularly demonstrate the application of knowledge and skills on the job. click here.Duties & Responsibilities Program Development
- Conduct a systematic analysis of national, Arizona, and county data, local resources, and historical information in order to identify community assets, program needs, and teaching opportunities.
- Identify resources (grants, contracts, in kind contributions, etc.) to enhance programs.
- Work in cooperation with community groups, local leaders, Extension advisory groups, and other Extension professionals, develops an annual Plan of Work detailing the anticipated plan of programming and deliverables for the current year. The Plan of Work is then presented and approved by the County Advisory Board.
- Consult with Extension faculty, Experiment Station researchers, and other experts in the development of educational programs, applied research, and scholarly works
Program Implementation
- Implements programs that may include an applied research effort to address problem-based issues pertaining to identified clientele needs.
- Develop educational materials for clientele distribution to include peer-reviewed articles, fact sheets, bulletins, social media networks, etc.
- Participate and collaborate with peers and statewide working groups to discuss and develop identified programmatic resources.
- Function as a resource for other agencies and organizations. Promotes interaction and cooperation among various groups.
- Disseminate education materials to clientele county-wide and/or statewide as working groups identify program priorities.
- Conduct workshops and develop media communications to reach clientele.
Program Results
- Evaluates and documents results and impacts of educational programs.
- Writes, communicates, and publishes program results to both professional peers and clientele through periodic reports, scholarly works, and various types of publications (e.g., bulletins/fact sheets, popular articles, state publications, scientific articles, social media, video, and computer programs). This work may be independent or in collaboration with other staff.
- Consults with the County Extension Director(s) to evaluate program effectiveness and personal achievements.
Minimum Qualifications JDX:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Additionally:
- Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to University Fleet Safety Policy. Must also be able to provide own transportation and be able to travel statewide using all modes of transportation.
Preferred QualificationsPreferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in plant sciences, horticulture, agronomy, or related disciplines.
- Two year's experience in plant production systems, small scale agriculture, on-farm food safety, and other sustainable agricultural practices.
- Experience with row crop/vegetable/small grain farming.
