Associate Advisor (AA)
  • MISSION
  • The Associate Advisor is an integral role at Hilltop Wealth Advisors, providing technical financial planning and investment management work in collaboration with others. This great communicator, leader, and enthusiastic team member supports the vision, positive culture, and team spirit across our firm and clients.As a member of our advisory team and under the supervision of a Lead Advisor and/or Senior Advisor, the AA provides meeting preparation, support in client meetings, and follow-up through the entire financial planning experience. The AA will aid in the coordination of the planning process and tasks needing completion for the client.Most of the AAs time is spent preparing for client meetings, in meetings with a Lead Advisor or Senior Advisor, and completing or delegating tasks to other members of the team. This can be an entry-level position for college graduates with a genuine interest in financial planning, or those who have passed a CFP exam or are earning work experience to use the CFP designation. The AA can give advice to clients and is able to make recommendations (with the supervision of senior advisors) on client financial plans and investments. They have obtained (or will obtain) the proper licensing to work directly with clients and often attend client meetings with other professional advisors. The AA will also have opportunity to work with smaller client accounts independently. This position does not require marketing or sales abilities.
  • ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Focused support and second chair duties in client meetings with an ability to add value to the conversation while gathering data and action items for follow-up
    • Coordinate with Senior and Lead Advisors in the development and preparation of clients financial plans, developing recommendations and solutions in the best interest of the client and ensuring those plans are executed
    • Communicate with clients by understanding the needs, objectives, goals, and concerns, and translating those into an actionable and disciplined plan
    • Coordinate with clients other advisors (attorney, CPA, etc.) and other external sources to carry out the goals of client service
    • Provide client follow-up and engagement with clients, pre- and post-meeting, as well as other needs and communications as they arise
    • Prepare and communicate recommendations for client financial plans, including entering data and running reports using financial planning software
    • Prepare and communicate recommendations on client investments, including the creation of investment policy statements and portfolio allocation reports
    • Act as backup for Lead Advisors on advisory questions from clients
    • Assist with client communications
    • Delegate non-advisory follow-up work to client service team
  • POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
  • Typical experience and education:
    • A bachelors degree, CFP program graduate, or ability to sit/study for CFP exam
    • Desire to work directly with clients
    • Ability to give and/or learn to give recommendations to clients
    • Strong self-leadership skills (i.e. emotional and mental health)
    • Strong technology capabilities (i.e. learn to use software easily)
    • Experience working with various custodial platforms

    • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, empathy, and listening)
    • Demonstrates personal integrity and honesty, and can protect confidential information
    • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and anticipate potential problems
    • Technical knowledge in financial planning and investment management
    • Knowledge of investment advisory compliance and regulations
    • Ability to deal with stress in an ever-changing investment market and financial transitions of clients
    • Excellent time management and strong organizational skills
