Job Summary: The Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) reports directly to the corporate Chief Medical Officer. The ACMO is accountable for the direction, planning and coordination of all physician-related activities to ensure the highest appropriate level of medical care. The ACMO establishes and implements standards of medical service; and develops, and implements programs for quality patient care, timeliness, productivity, utilization management, quality initiatives, provider education, and performance. The ACMO is responsible for implementing standardized clinical care guidelines to support medical management initiatives related to utilization and risk management, quality initiatives, meeting company key performance indicators, and other related provider performance issues.
Essential Job Functions: - Identify physician recruitment needs and collaborate in the hiring and contracting of providers.
- Establish work schedules and assignments for medical staff according to workload, space and equipment and clinic needs.
- Oversee daily operations of all physician services and care models.
- Build relationships with specialists, hospitals, hospitalists, skilled nursing facilities and other providers; to ensure a network of quality service delivery for at risk lives.
- Responsible for medical interpretation, reviews and decisions as required for plan administration.
- Monitor medical performance and provide guidance to ensure that the quality of care being delivered meets appropriate standards to ensure cost effective utilization practices.
- Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures, systems, programs and standards for health care services.
- Represent the organization in community and marketing events as needed by the corporate marketing team.
- Maintain accountability and compliance with the departmental and physician budgets.
- Assess and recommend strategies for compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Develop and maintain an effective relationship with all clinic locations providing medical guidance and expertise.
- Implement and monitor outcomes of utilization review as well as disease management programs to meet the quality and cost goals for the region.
- Identify trends of over- and underutilization and implement action plans to improve.
- Direct and orient physicians in the correct application of approved guidelines.
- Guide and enforce customer service initiatives as laid out by the company.
- Build a cohesive team by attracting, developing and retaining top clinical talent.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Education, Experience & Skills - Has at least five (5) years of experience in group or IPA medical management or Clinic Management
- Board Certified or equivalent Physician with unrestricted TX medical license in good standing
- Understands and has experience in all lines of business including Medicare, Medicaid, and Managed Care
- Texas medical license in good standing
- Advanced interpersonal skills
- Computer literacy with word processing and spreadsheet software
- Detailed knowledge of and ability to analyze and present data to support efficient analysis
- Ability to apply technical principles and concepts
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Highly organized and able to work independently
- Skilled at Interpersonal Relations with Executives, Directors, Managers, Supervisors, and Staff
Preferred Education, Experience & Skills - Active, unrestricted physician Texas state license
- Current board certification in ABMS or AOA specialty
- 5+ years of clinical practice experience post residency
- Solid understanding of and concurrence with evidence-based medicine (EBM) and managed care principles
