Overview:Leads an accounting operations unit within the Controller department of Finance including the following functions: accounts payable, general accounting, reconciliation management, daily and monthly control and other projects. Provides senior and executive management with financial information necessary to control the firm's operations as well as guidance in support of strategic decisions. Ensures appropriate staffing and infrastructure.Primary Responsibilities: Through subordinate managers of diverse teams, responsible for financial and regulatory accounting processes and reporting for the organization.Ensure consistent administration of uniform accounting systems for general accounting and budgetary purposes within department and across the organization.Promotes the importance of accurate organization-wide financial record keepingUltimately responsible for various monthly and quarterly processes, including support of the month-end close process. Applies expert-level judgment to decisions on these processes.Motivates and inspires people from different areas of expertise and aligns disparate teams to build new processes in support of improved functional alignment and technology enhancements.Adeptly analyzes complex processes, uses data driven insights to uncover hidden inefficiencies, and leads efforts in workflow streamlining to optimize processes across teams.Designs and implements controlled and integrated processes, develops and enforces data quality standards, and effectively manages issues and determines prioritization and criticality.Participate in the development and implementation of Finance department goals, contributing to strategic decisions with an in-depth knowledge of multiple divisions as well as industry/competitor strategies.Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.Promote an inclusive environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.Complete other related duties as assigned.Supervisory/ Managerial Responsibilities: Manages subordinate managers and financial consultants. Possess ability to direct/persuade/influence across division and peers throughout the bankEducation and Experience Required: Bachelor's degree and a minimum 11 years' experience in Finance, Business or a related field with 4 years' managerial experience or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 15 years' higher education and/or work experience with 4 years' managerial experienceStrong analytical ability and creative problem-solving skills, including knowledge, and application of GAAPExcellent communication skills, both written and verbalDemonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and competing prioritiesStrong interpersonal skills and maturity to build relationships and interact from a business as well as a technical standpointIn-depth knowledge of the banking industry and related generally accepted accounting principlesEducation and Experience Preferred: Advanced degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business AdministrationCPAExperience leading a business/P&LExperience in financial planning and analysis, accounting, strategic planning with financial services industry M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $140,621.49 - $234,369.15 Annual (USD).
