Job Title: Associate Head Women's Wrestling Coaching Instructor

Summary

The Associate Head Women's Wrestling Coaching Instructor collaborates with the Head Men and Women's Wrestling Coaching Instructor in providing support for the organization of the program and implementation of meet and practice plans. This includes, but is not limited to communication with athletes, preparation of facilities, distribution and care of equipment, scouting opponents, and film breakdown. The Associate Head Women's Wrestling Coaching Instructor will provide support for the players' academic success and track academic progress as needed. They facilitate communication with several constituents, which include faculty, academic advisors, assistant deans, and parents. Internally, they work with the Equipment and Facilities staff, Athletic Trainers, and Assistant ADs when necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate practice time to include such responsibilities as implementing drills and meet plans into practices, offering input for meet strategies.
  • Serve as the primary contact for the women's wrestling program.
  • Implement and lead elements of practices and meets.
  • Assist the Head M&W Wrestling Coaching Instructor with the development of strategies for a successful program.
  • Oversee the women's wrestling budget and purchasing items.
  • Assist with the monitoring of academic progress.
  • Mentor student-athletes regarding proper conduct and decorum.
  • Actively support the Head M&W Wrestling Coaching Instructor's philosophy.
  • Coordinate the evaluation and recruitment of prospective student-athletes.
  • Advise staff and student-athletes in developing official visit itineraries.
  • Assist in the development of community outreach programs.
  • Coordinate all administrative requirements for the team.
  • Work with the Head M&W Wrestling Coaching Instructor and the Strength and Conditioning Instructor.
  • Attend rules education sessions and complete necessary compliance forms.
  • Supervise graduate assistants and part-time staff as assigned.
  • Lead in the coordination of team player tryouts and selection.
  • Attend athletic department meetings.
  • Participate in pre-season and post-season meetings.
  • Develop and provide instructor-led rules training.
  • Represent the department and institution positively.
  • Work closely with athletic trainers and follow injury and drug testing protocols.
  • Follow all University, Ohio Athletic Conference, and NCAA policies and regulations.
  • Meet all deadlines for paperwork.
  • Exhibit enthusiasm towards athletes and display respect for the entire program.
  • Dress appropriately and professionally for all functions.
  • Foster school spirit by promoting other sports.
  • Maintain fair and consistent relationships with student-athletes.
  • Participate in athletics training and professional development programs.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Head Coaching Instructor.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of collegiate coaching experience or two (2) years successful coaching experience as a head or assistant coach.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and maintain certifications in CPR and AED.
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse constituencies.
  • Must understand and comply with NCAA, Ohio Athletics Conference, and University rules.
  • Interest in supporting John Carroll's mission.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Two (2) years of collegiate coaching experience or four (4) years successful coaching experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate students positively.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize effectively.
  • Successful prior participation in the sport.

Normal Work Location, Hours and Conditions

Extensive travel involved. University core business hours are generally 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. However, this position will require work to be performed outside of normal business hours based on competitive and recruiting schedules.

Physical Requirements

Ability to demonstrate the physical movements of the sport and sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting.

Starting salary will be $43,888 – $45,000, commensurate with qualifications.
